    Wheel Nuts - Steel Wheels

    A question for those of you who have steel wheels fitted to a D3/4 or RRS.

    What wheel nuts do you use?

    I used Land Cruiser wheel nuts, but can't remember if it was from a 100 or 200 series.

    The standard nuts have a taper on the bottom of them. Would that be the correct taper for steel wheels?

    I have a couple of Gordon's old steel wheels for spares and the nuts are 100 series Landcruiser. I had to use the spare in the Kimberley and all was good with the chrome LC 100 series nuts.

    Its a metric 14mm nut with a 1.5 twist so ask for 14x1.5 metric nuts and you will be ok. I got my first lot from the yota mob but any 14x1.5 will do.

    There is a technical requirement for the nut to be secured to the stud by a minimum number of turns (I think it was 9 to 10) - the 'Cruiser nuts meet this requirement, don't know about the others. Presumably most 'open' nuts would. I guess this is more a function of the rim design, but check just in case!
