I thought about taking pictures but in the end didnt get organised enough....
    1. Disconect the battery. Remove the two padded sections either side of the steering wheel, these are held on with spring clips that disappear inside the dash never to be seen again so beware.

    2. Remove the large panel below the steering wheel held by two clips at the top and plastic right angle retainers at the bottom - pull the top towards you.

    3. Remove the two screws that hold the black plastic shroud that moves with the tilt of the steering wheel.

4 Lower the wheel to its lowest setting and pull it toward you to give some space to work.

    5. The plastic shroud locks into the bottom of the cluster, this should pull back slightly and retract down to give access to the two T20 screws that hold the cluster in. You will need a short allen key type torx driver and some patience to get in there or a long flexible drive.

    6. Remove the cluster screws and pull the cluster outwards, I removed the light switch panel to get my hand behind to pull it out. The cable on the cluster is long enough to remove the cluster and work on it.

    7. Replace the lens, this is a simple matter of releasing the clips. I used a thin screwdriver to release the clips from the back, there is a slot in the clip for such a purpose.

    8 Reverse to reassemble

Replaced our D3 instrument cluster lens today due to cracking. This 'how to' video gave some good points:

My D3 lens is cracked. Has been since I brought it a few years ago. I thought it was a reare thing and the previous owner must have been a victims of road rage or something however it seems not to be an isolated occurrence!! There must be some design flaw them. I was considering replacing the cluster but for the cost and hassle of reprogramming etc I felt I could live with it cracked. Didn't realise you can just buy the lens. Where did you get yours from? Is it an LR part?

Part number is LR038299. I bought from Britcar along with a few other items which makes the freight costs reasonable.
