Tsk, tsk, tsk, these Disco fellows can't tell a Deefer from a 79 Series I fear...

I can.....79's are dull, lifeless and without character.....nothing dull and lifeless about a defender, and certainly full of characters.

I have a 1998 series I Discovery... but our Dubai based LR club now boasts around 350 members consisting of just about every model ever built.
One thing I've noticed though is the LR3's seem to be the most temperamental and fragile amoungst all of the cars in the club.
Many of the members have the New Puma Engined Defender and we hardly ever hear about the problems they've picked up over the weekend campouts....the LR 3 owners on the other hand tend to drive their cars directly to the workshop after every desert trip to get one thing or another repaired, fixed or serviced.
The LR3 doesn't seem tuff enough for off roading on a regular basis.
The Defenders, Range Rovers Classics and Early Discoveries all seem to take a hard day in the desert in their stride.

I have a 2008/9 RR Sport as well as my Discovery but having seen the type of problems the guys have with the same platform LR3 I'm never taking it off road.

A close second to the LR3's mood swings is the Discovery II....you'd think LR would have improved on this model before launching the 3...but they didn't!

The d2 in budget spec guise with coils allround and manual preferrably with no xyz switch to cause problems is very reliable in hard off road use. The d1 is better again for reliability in hard offroad use but there isn't much in it. I love my 95 d1 but prefer my 02 d2 offroad and both are v8's.

    Cheers

And for your information it takes a lot of skill and bravery to select the correct mode when driving a D3/4 off road. I mean to say it can get scary if your in Sand mode and you find yourself on that slippery green stuff called grass. Let alone what to do when you come across uneven ground or a concrete road side kerb that one must try to get over.

It's not easy being the owner of or driving the most awarded 4x4 in the world. ...

God it'd be a funny night with us all around the campfire and a few daiquiri's under our belts.

I can just hear it now, the bull**** flowing, the insults flying and everyone ****ing themselves laughing !

You Defender Riffraff can leave now if you like. Us Disco drivers need to get back to talking about how superior our Disco's are compared to all other 4x4's on the planet.
    Cheers,

Not having us around means you wont have to DEfend your vehicles capabilities,,
You should just admit DEfeat, and buy what you know you really want deep down inside anyway,, a DEFENDER
