D3 new key+FOB - 433mhz, where to cut and code?

    Hi all,

Just ordered a brand new key from ebay UK, 68 bucks, looking better than the dealer 750 so far.

Anyone who has done this, where do I get it coded and cut and what sort of price am I looking at?

    Any help appreciated as always.

This I will be interested in.
I was informed that the key could only be obtained from the factory with the vin no. hence the excessive price. Not possible to code it ?
As we get on I guess someone will come up with an option, I hope.

Coding should be the easy part, it is 433mhz so I would assume most garages would have the ability to code it to the vehicle.

As for cutting the key, that is something I am unsure about, can a vehicle or security key cutting play do it? They are just a metal key with a pattern after all?

    Cheers,
    Ben

You'd need to go to a Land Rover specialist to get the coding done, but the key cutting should be able to be done by any competent locksmith.

    Thanks Dave,

Opposite of what I thought. Makes sense though.

What if I was just to get the key cut and swap the internals in the fob so the newly cut key is my every day and the original is the spare but just as a key, does the Landy require more than a key for operation?

    cheers,
    Ben

    That's exactly what I did,
I bought the Key blank & body ( NO Electronics ) from the UK.

I had the Key cut at the local Westfield & swapped the Electronics over. Works great.

If the unit is O.K. and you are just swapping it over and not after another complete new key set up, my friendly independent L/R service shop pointed out that my original was getting well worn and replaced the case for $31 Aus, now have a spare blank key but don't need it,new case is fine.

Just bear in mind if a key has been coded once it cannot be re-coded so used keys are a no no.

I bought a complete new fob and key with the key pre cut to my car from britpart in the UK for approx $145, I then use my MSV2 to code it to my car, now I have three working keys.
