    D3 trailer hubs

    I would like to put D3 studs onto my camper trailer so I can run same rims tyres all round. Does anyone know a source of hubs with studs for D3 in them or do I need to buy all separate? I am under the impression that stud pattern is same as Holden HQ? Thanks in advance.

    Not sure on the stud pattern being HQ but I know it is late model Commodore.

    Why not use Ford studs in the hubs and get wheels nuts with the ford thread but will match the D3 wheels.

    This company sell nuts cheap that should work.

    You are incorrect.

    HQ - WB is an imperial stud pattern.

    It's 5x120 if I'm not mistaken.

    5 x 120 but IIRC the boss doesn't fit through the cap hole although might with some machining of the boss. Also note that the LR offset puts the rim closer to the springs than usual so the tyres might rub.

    The Hubs can be sourced from trailer manufacturers or better still find who supplies their hubs and talk to them and have them fit the studs and machine the hub to correct size. If your trailer has parallel bearings (same size inner and outer) then machining the hub small enough may be a problem. I cannot remember the exact size of the spigot of the D3 wheel but I had to have 3mm machined from the center hole of steel rims for the trailer.

    Yes and I found this out the hard way, also the hole is tapered and would be hard and not worth the money to have it machined to fit, and I didn't want to alter the D3 alloys, as they are very rare now, 14mm studs are very easy to optain from trailer parts places, and commodore brakes also easy to get, you will then need to drill them to fit the 14mm studs, 14mm x 1.5 pitch thread wheel nut for steel rims are really easy to get also.

    Melbourne trailers will make you drums with 14mm studs to suit the 5 X 120 pattern, but they use 9 X 2 and 3/4 drums, so you'll need to move the drum backing plate bracket to suit, this is what I had to do, I also bought some 17" steel rims to fit to the camper, I can use the trailer rims on the car if I need too, but I can't use the car rims on the trailer, which is unfortunate but you get that.

    Here is the difference between Commodore and HQ

    Holden HQ - 7/16" UNF studs - 5 Studs - PCD 120.6mm - 72mm from stud to stud

    Commodore - 7/16" UNF studs - 5 Studs - PCD 120mm - 72mm from stud to stud

    120mm = 4.724" (??)
    120.6mm = 4.750" (4 3/4")

    Be aware that VE Commodore has the same stud pattern as the older Commodores but has larger diameter studs (14mm I think).

    I know this because my box trailer had VE commodore style hubs and VE commodore wheels and when I put brakes on I was not aware of this and ordered Commodore brakes - stud pattern was the same but studs were too small - VE studs were very expensive where Ford studs (larger diameter than old Commodore but slightly smaller than VE Commodore) worked OK. My BMW rims which also go on my RRS fit no issues on the VE Commodore hubs with ford studs so with the right nuts so I "assume" the landie rims will as well.

    My point is simply that there are two types of Commodore hubs ad the only difference is the studs.
