Not used one myself, but my understanding from reading about them is they're not fantastic.

						 D4 Drink Cooler Box
 D4 Drink Cooler Box
What's the general opinion on the HSE console cooler box ?? I had one in a Toyota Sahara & it was awsome, but the Disco item seems to take for ever and still doesn't get very cold. I know the Toyota unit is fan forced and I assume the Disco is an element type, which could be part of my problem. Has anyone got any clues or perhaps I may have a warranty question. I am sure the product should be more efficient than it is.
thanks for any info

It uses peltiers and only runs while the car is on. I find it is fine on trips for keeping drinks and snacks cool. It takes a while to cool down though.
If you are doing short trips with stops in between it won't keep things cold.

I had a cooler box in the RRS, it kept drinks nice and cold. When you parked up it kept running for awhile(not exactly sure how long)
I would defiantly be asking the question!
Cheers
Scott.
My cooler box runs really well - pulls down the temp really fast and keeps stuff cool. The coin tray does need to be in place though to maximise cooling as the cooling element is on the bottom and the top of the fridge does not get as cold if the coin tray is not in place - then need to use smaller bottles.
My fridge operates all the time if switched on irrespective of what the car or ignition is doing - I have to remember to turn it off.

I purchased one of the genuine LR ones aftermarket, but while it will keep cold things cold while running, it takes a long drive to bring warm things down to cold.
Am seriously considering making an insulated lid, or insulating the underside of the coin tray to improve the efficiency. Once the warranty on the car is over I plan to power the cooler off a/the secondary battery, that way I can choose to run the cooler while the car is stopped.
BTW: the cost of the chiller box, imported from the UK turned out less than half the cost of having it installed in Au.

They are pointless/ useless IMHO. I've turned mine on once in 3 years for novelty value.
We use ours on long trips and it works a treat. Haven't used it much for short ones so can't comment on that but I've found in general that it takes a little bit to get cold but once there it's good. Can't comment on other brands but to me it does a good job for what it is keeping in mind it's not a real fridge. Biggest limitation I find is it won't fit a stubbie!!

Might have to try again, with the coin holder upside down, I like that idea.
