    Goe 18" rims

    Hi,
I have read the thread about a warranty being voided for 18" rims but that is a very involved story.

If my question is not appropriate then can admins remove it please.

Do Goe 18" rims void the warranty on a 2014 discovery 4.?

I am unsure why if they do. From my very limited mechanical knowledge, one of the reasons LR have used larger tyres is to cater for bigger brakes,

According to the GOE site their rims fit the larger brakes.

Would it not be a good idea for GOE to contact LRA and get their rims certified or authorized by LRA. This would stop any doubt. Or is this to much to ask.

I am trying to get a bit more info on the issue before venturing down this path.

    Yep I feel your pain.
The thread you refer to is actually about the said wheels affecting other componentry on the vehicle. Additionally if you read the thread, there is some doubt over what LRA should be liable for, but the general jist of the thread is the poor service response gained from LRA for one of their "premium" products.

Lots of people run the GOE wheels without issue, and I think that Compomotive are a big enough company with a high level reputation for premium wheels that they would not let be tarnished by selling dodgy gear.

The way I look at it is if the OD of the tire is within spec of the placcard, the width the same and the offset is correct, provided the wheels clear the brakes, there should be NO physical reason to void the warranty. It may be just LRA getting all high and mighty about it.

Just my $2 worth. We drive Land rovers, 2c wont get you anything.

    Jon,
The plaque on my car mention a number of different wheel sizes, including 18".

I take your point about the quality of the rims, I had no doubts on that.

The only way LRA would touch the idea is if they had exclusive sales - and you can imagine how much that would make the rims. At the time I was only interested in getting a product that would work, be legal, and at a reasonable price for other LR enthusiasts.

It is illegal for LRA to void a warranty simply because you have fitted a non-approved accessory. As long as the tyres you fit on these rims are within the legal limits, they shouldn't care one way or the other.

The "other" thread has unfairly singled out my product, without any proof or noting that a lot of OTHER accessories (especially tyres) have been flagged. No one else has ever had any issues with their dealer and the 18" rims. I think that's about all I can say without re-opening an issue that the mods do not wish reopened.

    Cheers,

    Gordon

    Gordon.
When I took delivery of my D4 from Southerns the service manager told me your rims are the only 18" rims that will fit and they do not void the warranty.
They were very supportive of you and your bussines(salesman and service manager),once they finished saying how good you were I told them the first time I went to Harvey on a 4x4 trip you still had a D1

Just letting everyone know that i reached out to richard to explain my personal situation and also to back (state good things) about the GOE rims.

I don't feel the mods want these types of discussions for obvious reasons taking place so was done via PM.

If anyone else wants clarity feel free to PM me offline.

I have had the GOE rims for a number of years I was part of the original group buy. Never have my rims been raised as a warranty concern even when I vibrations in the steering.

    They are a great product.

If you fitted 18" Rims with 235/65R18, 255/60R18 tyres you have not stepped outside of the LR approved tyre size. (as at 30/01/13)
Personally, next year I will be fitting GOE 18" rims with 265/60R18 LT's. If at some stage this is deemed to cause warranty concerns, I will welcome the court case over the effect of the additional 6mm of sidewall and 5mm of width.
