I agree it is all too easy to get these vehicles over gvm when adding stuff, and filling tanks etc etc. I have 1 customer who is always on the limit when packed reasy to go for mainland touring. To date that vehicle has had shocks, wheel bearings, bushes, control arms, and numerous other health issues all caused mostly due to weight. It has seen some pretty awful tracks though, but travelling thise tracks at around 3.1t isn't ideal...:-P

    Spent some shed time today.
Bolted the Fyrlyts and UHF antenna on.Have ran the coax cable to the front passenger seat.Need to find some way of fixing the Icom remote unit under the seat, there is a plate under there.

A win and a fail today.
Firstly the win. Icom UHF is installed, head unit under passenger seat,mike/contrller adjacent to starter button. Was an easy instal.
The fail.I bought a cheapo $30.00 tablet mount from Ebay, gosneck style that is bolted to seat rail. The Samsung has to be forced into the cradle, despite them saying it fits on the website. It vibrates excesively and wont hold the Samsung steady,it flops down like a factory mirror on an early holden 1 tonner.
Need to look into a better way of fixing it.
I put Metroview on the tablet, seems to work OK.Its a bit out there with its settings. We now have 3 Caltex roadhouses in town, one is actually the Post Office.Woolshed is now at the Pub and when I turned onto Narrogin Rd I was advised the speed limit is 130kmh

For anything that large I'd be fitting a RAM mount.
Takes up a fair bit of real estate!
I use a Nexus 7 up on the dash, up where you can see without taking your eyes off the road for long.

    Andrew,
Is the bracket for the ICOM screwed in or double sided tape?

Mine is held in the same position with double sided tape.

I have a Uniden, not ICOM - but they're about the same size head unit. More than three years now, and it's never fallen off.
    Cheers .........
