When you're going through some awkward terrain there is a little graphic on the screen that displays the diff locking and unlocking, at least thats how I know its there.

I also think you can get the info by punching your VIN into Topix or something similar.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

My D4 only has the basic screen which amongst other things does not have a driveline display function.

The electric motor is mounted on top/front of the diff and can be seen when peering over the top of either rear tyre, with a better view obtained when at off-road height. There's also an electrical cable between the body and the motor. The view is better from the drivers side and a torch may be useful.

Edit: If you have registered with Topix and you can get the vin then the vin can be used to show the build information.

You don't need an ediff on a D4 unless you are hardcore 4wding, with all the gear.
The capability of the D4 in standard form is incredible, you will need tyres and a lift and snorkel before you even contemplate an ediff.
Standard the D 4 leaves modified 4wd's in its wake, and this is not a biased comment.

Will the lock be displayed at all if its not fitted?

Pretty sure no as I've sat in ones with out the ediff and there is only one lock in the centre, mine has the ediff and it has 2 locks, but i could be wrong. Although I'm 99% sure of it.

If you have the display both locks will show whether you have an e-diff or not. By the display you can only tell when it's working. I know cos I don't have an e-diff and both locks show!

Without an e-diff the display for rear one never changes to locked.
