He is not over the moon, tbh. Mainly because it definitely a winch bar and he has no intention of fitting a winch. This should not be a problem but there are two large holes and some smaller on the top of the main cross bar where the winch controls presumably access the winch and a big hole in the front where the winch goes. He doesn't like having the holes there catching dirt and water, and in extreme cases bits of roo.

He also doesn't like the dimple powdercoat finish that is more of a dark charcoal than the jet black he saw at the shop in an earlier version. That's a matter of personal taste and he said he'll get over that.

I haven't seen it myself but I can say for sure it is very much a winch bar. Too much of a winch bar, not like my ARB bar which is also a winch bar but is fine with no winch.

He has no complaints about the quality and the strength.

Get him to check with the fitter.I was told by OL Bunbury there are covers for the winch holes if a winch isnt fitted.

Thanks Andy. Yes the last model had those but he has been back to the supplier and it appears that these covers are not available for this new bar, or at least not yet.

It's quite plausible that the bars are ready for market before the covers are. If yours has them when your bar arrives, I'd like to pass that information on to him.

Hmmm. Well he didn't complain about those so you should not expect any problems when they are "found" again

Actually I was trying very hard to convince him to bring his car to Gordon's seminar because I knew there would be other wanting to check out the bar, but he is mustering on that Sunday, so you won't get to see it.

On a side issue I have another mate I was trying to convince to come who has a very very tasty late 14 HSE in that red with black pack and black mags that looks totally boss but he won't come either. I think they are all waiting for me to to pass on everything I learn free of charge. Chinese whispers sounds like a great way to get bogged to me.

    That's disappointing Andy, we
Are inching closer to ARB having a bar available. I've had no response on current wait time. Guessing the parts are in a shipping container somewhere ...

Now that ARB have purchased Smartbar, we may eventually see a different bar available for the D4. Some of the Smartbar designs are Godawful, but there are a few ( mainly those that replace the full front bumper assy on cars ) that look ok.

I was told by OL that they only fit the ECB bar. Is that correct?

I know their website lists a steel bar. I'm in two minds whether to fit one or not so availability is less the issue for now.

    Bullbar for 2014 D4

OL have a steel bar to fit latest model D4s. Opinion on this forum tends to be they have done better job than ARB with the HSE front parking sensors in the past. ARB have a new model bar out soon which you would think is fully HSE compatible.

As to whether you fit one at all, my two cents, is that if you plan to go touring and take annual rural holidays you should get one. I decided not, I can look back and see myself standing in the front of my car with another bloke at a campsite after a long chat deciding not to get one "when I get back". Ten hours later outside Cocklebiddy, THUMP. It's not just the money, insurance will sort that out, it's the long looked forward holidays ruined, it's being stranded out there arranging rescue and then you're back in the office after you "holiday" thinking oh wasn't that relaxing and fun, not.

The peace of mind I've got now with bar is really worth something, even if I never hit another one. Before the incident I did not like the idea of cutting up my beautiful car and stick that big ugly hunk of steel on it. Now I think it looks great.

I'm very grateful my young roo only took out the headlight and plastic bumper with a glancing blow. I could continue on but it showed me what could happen.
