Oh TerryO, love your rants . Can't resist a bit of disco vs defender banter.

But first: Congrats on your D4 purchase dmdigital! It looks like you are going to enjoy it. I can forgive the defender sell up - different rides for different times in different lives.

    Simply not interested.

Bad enough that Defenders now have Transit engines and old Useless Range Rover diffs in them and a Disco 3 dash, soon they will be just another full on flash Disco with a different badge. ...
You can get a defender to go with your daily driver, you can have any engine you like, even a TDV6, hardcore diffs, lockers, whatever dash. Unlike the disco, you can easily build something unique. A defender stripped and rebuilt to your specifications will still end up cheaper than a fully optioned Disco and you may even have some cash left over to buy a more sensible run about to sit along side it.

It seems you cant accept that many good people across the globe love the defender - it is THE land rover icon. I doubt the new defender will generate such a cult following. Certainly wont if its anything like the D4. Proper land rovers are associated with adventures, getting some work done, saving the day. The D4 is often seen as an urban kiddy carrier, it looks bad when its mostly used as an OTT school bus. The disco is a great car, its just a shame that it is selling on mass to a boring demographic. It's simply uninspiring. I'd own one if I ever needed one, but don't see how I could ever consider it as special.

Oh well I guess you can always keep your old leaky, dusty, rattly, noisy, slow, weak diffed, unreliable engined, non air bag, cramped, uncomfortable...
Not all. Besides silent cars make me car sick after a while . Airbags are great for the traumatophobic.

soon to be extinct dinosaurs for ever as they fade away into oblivion and just to make yourselves all feel better needless to say you all will keep telling (fooling) yourselves how you have the best vehicle in the world. ....
Discos get old. Defenders forever vintage. They will be rocking the far corners of the globe till oil runs out. Maybe when your disco4 has more than halved in value next week you can try and bring it up to spec with a software update or just let it fade away into oblivion along with the once fashionable iphone 5.

Me, I'll stick with my trusty Disco's, at least if you own a Disco you own a Disco, not some old thing with borrowed obsolete parts from vans and other Land Rovers. ...
If I'm going to own a Land Rover, I'm not going to dilute it, wimp out and do it by half. I'll take a proper one!

    Cheers Terry

In case you haven't seen it, anyone in Sydney or surrounds interested in meeting/catching up with Derek and his wife Brenda (and their new D4) tomorrow night (sat) can find the details here:

They are on their way back to the NT

I wouldnt be so quick as to say I would buy a defender if it looked like that artists impression. What if it blew bubbles out of the exhaust, had wipers that created rainbows and had a horn that went 'wiggle-wiggle-wiggle' ->

The options you have just listed are standard OEM fitting on any D4 that is SE or above Manic, except for Yellow, us Disco owners would never be that grass.

We especially like the rainbows the wipers make. ...

My kids like the exhaust bubbles and the unicorns that come out of the rear aircon vents when adults are not looking.

I was one aeons ago (at least it had a V8 I suppose, albeit a wheezy one) so I know what they're missing out on. Little elves that fold your hats in the hat storage compartments; that sweet little mermaid that visits the vistas under the back seat to keep the water out; the kindly wind fairies that keep away drafts ...

    Haha and so on ...

Yes all of that, but you also forgot the standard fixture Latte machine in the glove box for us Disco owners. Mind you I would guess by now even Defender owners know about the Latte machines in Disco's so I guess it's no big deal, that is unless you don't own a Disco and have to boil a billy to make a cuppa.
    Cheers,
