If you can feel it through thr steering, it would have to be around front drive shafts. CV joints or steering tie rods and their ball joint come to mind.
I've heard of a case where someone clipped a kerbstone in a Rangie (but I think this could apply to a Disco) which shifted the sway bar over a bit, the rubber was a bit tight so held the sway bar in the new position, which then upset the suspension geometry causing knocking.
