I thought that little tool was only for idiots-until i need to user it myself!
(which probably confirmed it!!)
A momentary lapse is all it takes and I couldn't blame anyone else.

Well, the Handbrake finally did it. She tried to fill the D4 3.0l up with unleaded!
But thanks to the misfuelling device, She only got 86 cents in. She went to a different servo than she normally goes too and had a brain fart.
Unfortunately I never showed her how to reset it. I recommend every one show the other half how to do this as the tool cost $40 when you break it, which is very easy when you don't know how to do it. And it's not that easy to explain over the phone especially when the stress levels are up.
What a great little piece of engineering.
Anyway thought I would share the experience.
Oh, the Handbrake filled it up with the right juice and all is ok.
Cheers
Scott.

As much as I'd like to replace my D4's filler neck with a D3 version because of the inconvenience when almost always filling from a truck bowser which is well away from the petrol bowsers, I have retained the device to stop me from inadvertently doing the unthinkable.

So how do you use it? I suppose it's in the manual.
Ive heard filing from a jerry can trigger the safety doova as well.
James, yes it will if you have a narrow filler, cut some of the skinny bit off to fix the issue

Best to read the manual, but be very very gentle with the tool as the two small tabs on the end break off easily, then rendering it useless. The reset tool in my opinion looks way more complicated than it needs too be. But I guess LR wouldn't be able to charge the $40 if it didn't.
Never filled a Petrol with Diesel or a Diesel with Petrol..
Some people must be zoned way out when fueling up
And no fuel restrictions in my filler.. Just right for Hi-flow into both tanks
I'd never done it either ........................ until a trip down to Perth a while back in the D2.
Pulled into Northam looking for fuel. Came across a Caltex and saw the big sign out front ................ "Vortex" Diesel, $1.48 per litre (or whatever the cost was at the time).
Pulled up to the bowsers ........ read "Vortex" on the label and noted the price of $1.48 per litre ............ started to pump fuel into the tank.
Fortunately, only got about 20 litres into the tank when the smell told me something was not right. Double checked and found that I was pumping "Vortex" unleaded petrol, also priced on the day at $1.48 per litre.
Since then, I have not used Caltex.
But I have to agree ......................... I've also never pumped up my washer bottle nor filled my tyres with water.
Cheers .........
