Used to cut firewood with a great mate. His trailer carted 1.5t max, single axle,as mutch as we could fit on it,mine 2t as much as I dared to put on it(no trailer brakes).
Baz had an 80 Series tojo,4.2 diesel. On the long hill into town I would watch the mirror for the first black smoke cloud(Baz just went to 4th) then the second black smoke cloud(Baz just resorted to 3rd).Every time I would call him up as he got futher behind and say,Im still doing 110kmh and Im still in 5th.Geez it would wind him up cruel!!!!!

They tow effortlessly... We just knocked off a great trip with Cross-over in tow..

May I take this time to provide a small warning to all people doing this sort of thing:

With the set up you have there, whilst effective, is likely to be (unless it has certain components fitted) totally illegal - and it beats me how they (trailer hire mobs) can rent the trailers without advising this (Duty of Care)!

Be very wary when using a car trailer... Once it exceeds 2t it requires break-away brakes (and therefore a controller) fitted.

Not having this renders you liable for fines, voided insurance (a given if they spot it) and worse case - liable in event of an incident...

Its all good it did have break away system hooked up and fitted, and the trailer brakes also worked through the car brakes never seen it before but they did seem to work quite well but hardly used the brakes as didn't need to most of it was highway kms!!

Certainly was!! Bloody huge rig but tows great makes me want one haha would never use it haha but a great rig!!

On the down side well the 2009 Audi with a DSG gearbox not so good to fix the fault needs a new mechantronic unit $3200 installed plus $1400 to fix the day time running light out and then $310 to find both the fault because apparently their mechanics are worth $155 an hour!!!

Trailer towing trip done in a day!!

I have towed just under 3 tonn with my d2 V8 manual and it did it very nicely with a well set up trailer. I regularly tow a 2 tonn boat. The d3/4 should be better again with ind suspension, much greater mass and longer wheelbase. I think 2 tonn regularly is what the d2 is best at, and my bet is that the new shape would have a further tonn limit ie 3 tons in terms of comfortable regular towing.

    Cheers

The D2 would cruise along nicely!! It was surprising the D4 did it superbly very comfy and just cruised along overtook a few cars no problems at all very happy blew me away how easy it did it!!
