Thanks for your help - it will make our trip across the Nullarbor and up the west coast of W.A. that little bit easier

Wha'ts wrong with a couple of extra rated shackles permanently attached to that point.
A lot cheaper, rated shackles less than $10 at Bunnings.

Personally I don't trust thin cast, like those safety chain points on the hitch, they have been known to break.

I'd be attaching the saftey chains to the recovery point.

And I would be moving all the wiring from the bottom of the bumper if you are going even remotely off the highway..

Nothing lasts long down there! And when ripped apart can make the car do funny things

The shackle point of view - why did you run such large shackles (2t)

A pair of 1.5t Green pins will do the job fine (even at 3.5t) as the legal requirements are not "WLL" but sufficient to hold - a 1.5t is 7.5t yield...

Is that the ring behind the plastic panel where the factory electric plugs are situated? I was told not to use that to attach the chain as it was not meant for that.

I looked at the smaller 2Tonne 7mm couple set, but it was going to be pointless having them as they didn't drop down far enough. The whole idea of this set up was to be able to easily get access to the point where I could attach the chain D shackles. Also oddly the smaller ones were just $1 cheaper

When going to Esperance/Cape LeGrande, ask about the beach/tide conditions. If its a low tide and the weather has been good the beach run from town to LeGrande is awesome. You need the low tide and no bad weather in the previous few weeks as it will be very soft.
There is a huge granite outcrop at Wylie bay at the start of the beach run,you can drive up the rock, its very steep, the view from the top is awesome!!!!

......and if the wind has been blowing a gale, watch the beach, as it dries out quickly and goes super soft, like talc. Beautiful place down there !!! Have to get back soon.

Apparently it is not considered safe to join D shackles together.
