    Front Rotors and Pad Change/Source

    Hi Guys,

have looked around and not getting the exact info i need from the sticky's and search threads.

the D4 was in for service today (done 32k) and apart from needing a new low end Turbo the Front brakes are due for change very soon.

At $1100 for rotors and pads Front only, whilst I am happy to pay, i also think it's a bit rich.

I have scoured the site however welcome peoples recommendations on where to source the parts, as obviously with the declining $$ the exchange rate is not as favorable as past. is Duckworths still a viable option, or have people found better sources locally? I had the rears done last service 28k but that was just pads and machined discs at an independent but still ended up being same price as LR.....

Just looking to get rotors and pads for the front, potentially either then giving them to LR to fit, or doing it myself.

    Thanks
    JB

JB, I would be very surprised if you need rotors at only 32K km. I would be questioning this.
    Cheers,

Hi Sean, This dealer is normally good hence why I travel the extra distance to use them, lets just say well known on the forum.....The car does alot of city driving and country is normally towing, I was surprised as well they are not due now but risky between next service.

I would have expected 40-50k, as has been the norm with all my cars based on the driving.

I am also surprised if your rotors need replacing it 32k.
I have just put my 3rd set of front and rear pads in and the first new front and rear rotors in at 107k. Price for the whole lot was $1600 at Ritters in Melbourne.
They fitted original landrover parts as well. I have been really pleased with their service.

Could well do, they are heavy on brakes. D3 rotor from rep are approx $250 each, and pads another $100 odd. So, $600 is for parts? Labour, hour if you were quick, maybe a bit longer. Another $100 then. $1100 does a bit high, unless its gen LR parts.

X2 on the Akebonos pads. I have them on all 4 wheels on mine and would never go back to OEM pads.

I had new (OEM) rotors fitted to all wheels at about 85K km's. They didn't really need replacing, and I still have the original rotors in the shed. But I wanted to start the Akebono pads with new rotors as the dealer I bought the D4 from is monitoring the performance of these pads against OEM.

As it happens, I was at the dealers in Perth earlier today, and they checked the pads and rotors while I was there. After almost 20,000 km they are all still looking like new.

Just got home after a 6 hour drive.
    Cheers .........

From the FWIW dept: my daughter's friends have a L322 Range Rover. In for service a couple of weeks ago ...met with a $2, 300 bill... Were told this included new rotors and pads all around. They paid up and drove home in state of shock...
Brembo sell aftermarket oem spec rotors for a fraction of "genuine" LR pricing.

Recently had mine in for a service at a trusted independent and was told I needed new front rotors and pads (the current ones are 45K old).
I foolishly went and purchased both only to find that the rotors where at 28.8mm, the service limit is 27mm and new width is 30mm. There was a little bit of scoring but nothing I would call unusual.
Needless to say the rotors stayed.

Give Karcraft a call and quote your VIN, they will give you a price on rotors and pads much better than the Land Rover price. My rotors (2.7 small ones) where $60 each. Land Rover OEM pads where $130 (I went with them as the TRW ones I used last time squealed for 10K).
Make sure you get the Land Rover part numbers off them as well and you can then compare with Duckworths or LR Direct.
I was in a hurry as needed to go away that weekend otherwise I would have chased up the Akebono pads.
