TDV6 'Base model'. Seat won't go back far enough. Can you get 'Mud Rails' for a D4?

Am having a think about upgrading my Discovery 1 to a Discover 4, and I've got one overnight for a test drive.

It is the base mode TDV6, but hell, does it go! Creamy smooth gearbox.

However, it is really uncomfortable, maybe just for tall people. I've got no support under the back of my legs, as they are about an inch off the seat squab near the front of the seat.

Seat is fully back. Rear of seat is fully down.

Anyone else with long legs have the same issue?

Can you get anything like "MUD Rails" for the Defender for a D4? Anyone tried moving the mounting points further back?

    Thanks
    David

Is the seat back too upright?

I don't think so - I have tried 2 or 3 positions for the seat back and no great improvement.

I do like sitting quite upright though - like the position you assume in a Defender.

I am 6'3" (191cm) so not exceptionally tall, I would have thought. Reckon I have long legs though.

There is no doubt there is limited travel for the seat. I am 6'3" also and I find the legroom is just ok, but I would like a bit more and if my legs were any longer it would be uncomfortable. There is quite a bit if adjustment on height and lumbar support etc. I would fiddle a bit more before you give up.

Not sure what you mean by mud rails but if you mean rocksliders, then yes there are a number of options.

Ahh - sorry. MUD rails only make sense if you are a Defender owner!

This is what they look like:

They set the Defender seat back 2".

Hi David, I am 195cm and don't have any problems with comfort, did a 10hr round trip a couple of weeks ago without issue. I have started sitting closer recently though, no where near all the way back. I also find reclined too much not as comfortable. Have a play I guess, hopefully you find a position you like. Definitely the most comfortable car I have owned.

    Hi David

I have an MY14 TDV6 and I am 6'4" and I have no problems getting comfortable with good leg room, but it's all personal taste. Our car has done 30k in a little over 12 months with no comfort complaints.

You can't modify the seat or the rails without getting an engineers cert. I assume the mud rails you talk about are extended seat runners, if that's the case, according to the dealer in ACT the extended seat rails for the defender are actually D4 seat rails.

Happy to be corrected on that, but that's what the dealer told me.

    Cheers

Try lifting the seat to give more support under the legs. The steering column is adjustable, and you may find it preferable to move it further away from you.

Try lifting the seat up... allows more fall on your legs and they tend to settle onto the squab better....
