    Smile D4 caravan camera

I have a cctv camera on the rear of my Caravan & want to wire into my D4 display, ie- the same as the reversing camera on the vehicle, any thoughts?

There are plenty if wireless video transmitters available in eBay That you can hook up to in car infotainment screen (search for "rear view video transmitter"). Haven't tried one but they seem pretty cheap. The other option could be a 12v wifi security camera. I have used one of these before and they have a built in wifi server which you can connect to using a smartphone or tablet. These are more expensive though.

Going to be interesting to see if you can have it successfully run to the LR in car system. Somehow I doubt it.

The other thing is that with the caravan set ups it looks to be a good thing to have dual cameras, one set up for reversing and the other as a rear view, run them to an in car screen and either have a split screen or toggle from one to the other.

The Safety Dave crew offer various systems, all chinese, but they seem to back them up OK. I have been considering a dual camera going to a dedicated screen and toggle between which view I want. When not towing, which is most of the time, I would remove the screen from the car, probably a suction mount to the windscreen.

Keep us posted if you can succeed to have the in car screen work though.

If it can be done I'd suggest first point of call is to ask Wiggs on the Disco3.co.uk site - he seems to be the go to guy on these matters. His personal website is Bluetooth Exchange

but search on the Disco site first as I bet this has been asked on there already.

On my RRV I ended up using the Hema7 navigator as a second screen for my back of Van cemera, with a toggle switch wired in between it and a 2nd reverse camera on the number plate of the Vogue (factory camera on a RRV is stupidly top of rear windscreen with no site of tow bar so its useless); this works really well and ofcourse I remove Hema it when not needed.

There's a lot of things to consider. Some basic questions first:

Model year - the system changed between MY11 and MY12. With MY12+ I haven't found a way to activate the rear view camera while moving forward at driving speeds.
There is this add-on Land Rover From 2012 VIM for Retrofit Camera or Nav but it comes at a price.
The factory RV camera has two in-line connector where you may be able to switch cameras from. One is in the tailgate and the other is under the gear shifter/centre consol.

Apparently you can activate the RV camera on pre MY12.

Existing camera system - Rear view or surround. The surround system uses a separate camera control module and if my memory serves me well it is a fibre optic system which makes it harder to get a different feed into it.

    Good luck.

Not sure if this is useful but in my MY14 TDV6 you can display the reverse camera image at any time while driving regardless of travel direction or speed. It's always "live" and is a menu option with the standard factory camera. This is in addition to it turning on automatically when you are reversing.

So perhaps swapping to a second camera feed could be achieved by utilising one of the in-line connectors mentioned by rufusking and splicing in some kind of selector switch?

    Cheers,
    Scott

    Hi mate.
What model D4 do you have? (MY??) Do you have a factory reversing camera installed (or surround cameras?)

When you let us know the above we can sort out your options.

    Cheers,
    Chris

Certainly not an option on the MY12. Would be nice to be able to upgrade the firmware to enable this.

Probably cost prohibitive, but the Chinese should have an all manufacturer retrofit available on ?bay before Christmas

I've wanted to do the same thing on my rv. In the end I decided on a WiFi reverse camera kit from eBay which I can watch from my phone or tablet. Not ideal but does the job for a reasonable price.
