Thread: 18" offroad Rim

Have anyone used GMAX wheel? I had been offered to fitting its Gmax illusion 19" wheel with General Grabber AT Tyre 255/55/R19. It is AT with 30% offload. Any suggestion? We are going to border track in SA this holiday, I don't know if my 20" rim with AT Tyre will be ok. My tyre got damaged on sidewall on last trip, the risk is if I should wait GOE 18" rim until Jan 2016. Then, no much I could do this summer.

The strongest 19" tyre is probably the Goodyear Duratrac, followed by the Hankook ATM RF-10.

Most of the GMAX stuff is only rated to 680kg, so check the rim load rating carefully.

Don't waste your money. 19" rims won't solve your problem. If you are damaging sidewalls on a 20" you will probably do the same with a 19".

While far from ideal, I would have no problem with doing the border track on 20"s, as long as they had decent rubber on them. The trick with these tyres is to keep your speed down and pressures up - and careful wheel placement. Unless its really soft don't drop your pressures more than about 6psi from road pressures.

Be patient. Wait for Gordon's rims they will be worth it - and don't **** around trying to make something else fit, nothing else does properly. Bang for buck, this is the best thing you can do to a D4.

Thanks, I think so. Still I will be limited on tyre selection on 19", better waiting for GOE.

I had been told that D3 18" LR alloy wheel will fit D4, but dealer mentioned it will not fit tied D4 large brake disc. Will GOE compomotive wheel fit on large disk pad?

An 18" LR wheel can be fitted to the 2.7ltr D4, as can a 17" wheel.

The 3.0ltr D4 requires 19" wheels due to the larger front brakes. The compomotive 18" wheels were developed to overcome this and are the only 18" wheel readily available in Australia that can be fitted to a 3.0ltr D4.

However, it has been confirmed that a standard 18" LR wheel can be fitted at the rear wheel positions of the 3.0ltr D4 which saves the need to use the expensive compomotive wheels as the spare wheels:

ie you need to swap Compomotive from the rear if it's a front that's blown?
