Thread: Whats everyone do with their old control arms?

Has anyone seen the armoured/rrs bushes for sale individually to fit to old arms?

Is there any noticeable difference in ride quality with the heavy duty control arms?

With the new arm assembly, does the larger ball joint mate up with the original taper in the hub?

Have done a bush replacement on lower front arms.
Was initially stumped as usual pullers that can remove the bushes could not get them out due to a lip that the bushes have around the edge.
Found that by pushing the edge back inside the circumference of the bush with a small cold chisel, I was able to then use the bush extractors to get them out. May need some heat from blow torch or oxy to warm them a bit.
Getting new bushes in, requires a large press and you will need large sockets/dies to pressure edge of new bushes into place.
AND MAKE SURE YOU MARK POSITIONS FOR BUSHES TO GO BACK INTO CORRECT POSITION IN ARMS (AS PER WHAT YOU PRESS OUT).
There is a $ saving in bushes V's new arms, but having done both a couple of times; next time I am just going to source best priced arms (complete with lower ball joints and not bother with doing the bushes, as unless you have the press, the extractors and the correct dies to use both, it can be a frustrating and protracted operation.
I am surprised that the major service guys have not tooled up to do the bushes, as if they did get organised, it really wouldn't be that hard a task on a regular basis.

My local indi, has made up a press tool with all thread , charges $80.00 per side plus bushes . Total cost including new bolt $350.00

I think that's what Les Richmond are doing with their own bushes. Also why I didn't wholly believe they were going to throw my old ones away.

In concern with presses, you could try a local truck mechanic. They usually have enormous presses at their disposal.
This is what I did when I had to do my A-Frame joint. Cost me $60 on Xmas eve, about 2pm. Was starting to think I was going to have to put the old one back in for the trip home to Albury
