Thread: Control Arm Bush Remover

    Bush failure

So, it would seem from reading this and other threads that the occurrence of front bushes failing starts from 60K upward and presents as a loud knocking noise from the front suspension. It is an expensive fix if you get a dealer to do it (like mostly everything else on Discovery) and replacement on vehicle is possible with the pullers and mandrels covered earlier in this thread, thanks all.
Is there any comment on failure as a function of suspension settings, does a lot of use of access or off road height accelerate bush failure? Other than visual inspection is there any other early warning signs of bush failure?
    Thanks

Lowering when static places extra stress.
Using it offroad on high speed corrugations accelerates it.

$1200 is hardly expensive for R&R with all new bushes, ball joints, bolts and labour.

With mine they would not do a wheel alignment as the slop in the bush was too much. That's a good test and at that point the tyre wear must accelerate.

This stockist seems to have very reasonably priced complete arms etc. This is for RRS but they also list Discovery. Anyone know if these are OEM?

    Not sure, these ones are.

My limited research would suggest that unless you change with genuine bushes expect to be doing it agin sooner rather than later. Unless you do it all yourself any savings in parts would quickly be made up with the extra labour.

I've used FamousFour quite a bit for RRC bits, they have been very good.

I recently ordered new OE, not LR, and the bushes I got were Lemforder the German manufacturer of the LR bushes so was pleased. I used LR Direct.

After checking out your tool, I think that may be the way to go for me. I do need to use it but Coffs is a bit far. If you are ever in Brisbane let me know. My shout.
