Thread: D4 rear left compartment contents?

Does anyone know if the key that unlocks the hitch from the vehicle is the same from vehicle to vehicle? I am about to take mine off and fit the Mitch Hitch and cayman bar from the D3 but I don't have a key. It won't be going back on so I figured if I could borrow someones key it would be sorted. I always seem to be too busy to get to the dealer. I should have asked MR Auto about it when I got it serviced. It could take a while with the angle grinder.

Not difficult at all.

I have never had any problem storing the receiver in its intended location in mine - and that is with a set of drawers fitted in the back of the vehicle, which does make access to the two side storage compartments a little more difficult. I experience more difficulty in putting the "door" of the storage compartment back on and closing it properly than I do with fitting the gear inside.

I also store the tongue and ball in the same compartment. They are placed inside the vinyl bag that they originally came in, together with a couple of tools (this is also where my mis-fuel re-set tool lives) and the bag is then wrapped in an old towel to protect against any damage to the outside body panel.

I figure why carry the receiver and hitch around in the car.
It's either in place for towing, or in the cupboard in the garage when not towing.
Very unlikely that I'm going to be away somewhere in the D4 and have a sudden urge to tow a trailer.

That's the way I run.
Then again,I saw an ex army trailer in Carnarvon loaded up with rubbish and had been for a long time.Was going to offer them $100 for it.No tow hitch onboard(1200km away),no pintle hook,plus they seemed a bit annoyed with a whitefella pulling up for a look see.

I'm a bit the same when I'm at home - the tow hitch tends to live in the shed on a shelf between uses.

But when I go away, I always pack it into the vehicle. I have been in Perth and in Hobart when I have had need to tow a trailer that I never took there with me.

Geez ............. it's really not that hard.

The big square bit (that the tongue slides into) goes down into the slot in the foam, and the green handle must be inside (closest to the tail light / outer guard) or you won't be able to close the hatch.

If you remember only those two things, the job is easy.
