GOE 18" Wheels, corrosion and ????

Had the same issue with my GOE rims and had to use a puller to get the front rims off. Lucky this was done in the shed when fitting new mudflaps because there was no way they would have come off in the bush or on the side of a road. I had blamed the tyre fitters because some of them just bung the rim on and then tighten the nuts with a rattle gun without properly seating them first. If the rims are not sitting straight they bevel on to the inside edge. I have finely sanded out the centres and used Lanoline grease so hopefully this was not the wrong thing. One thing I have learnt is that I would not do another outback trip without taking them off and checking that they will come off before leaving.

Ive just checked my wheel nuts (had to swap to check a new rim fit) and my liberal application of copper grease has caused some corrosion between the outside of the wheel nut and the wheel itself. Is this expected?

The only other grease i had lying around was molybdenum disulphide (i think thats it) also know as CV grease, so i used some of that for now. Any issues using that stuff?

Can get lanolin grease from a marine shop or even wool fat from a pharmacy

Yes that's to be expected Dan and yes moly based grease is suitable.
It will be similar to the product I mentioned earlier in this thread, which is a combination of moly and nickel.

Molytec make both a moly/nickel product and a lanolin product called fleece grease. I use both.

I use lithium grease in a convenient spray can.

Be aware that copper and aluminium alloys do not play well together; serious dissimilar metal corrosion.

Use it sparingly.
You will find Kiwis trying to hump your wheels every time you park it.

He was bent over checking the air pressure at the time..
