Key fob - need the year and can guide you to a source of aftermarket versions for about $40-50.

For a code reader search for GAP IID tool group buy. There are 28+ ECUs in a D4 and a std OBD reader can't do it.. (the GAP tool also programs your new key)

With regard to warranty - read the fine print...
They tend to have a LOT of exclusions and requirements for over servicing which will cost more than you're likely to spend on repairs.

Aside from fault reading/clearing and key programming it has other useful functions.
For example it can set the vehicle to tight tolerance mode, which is required for a wheel alignment.
This ability then opens up wider and more convenient options for wheel alignments without going through a dealer.

Second what the others said.

If you need a key the dealer will charge to code it to your car. That in itself is enough reason to get an IId tool and code it yourself.

Thanks Tombie, the car is a 2010 model which we pickup tomorrow. Keen to acquire another key fob asap and wondering how I would do this?

There is a thread a few pages back about getting a newer style (smaller) keyfob off ebay for about $50. I got one for my MY11 and programmed it the my Nanocom (similar to IIDtool mentioned above). Do a search for key fob and you should be able to find it...

Did you put the squeeze on the dealer to provide the (coded) spare in the deal ?

They're buying private so I doubt it 🤡

Thanks for the link, 2 x key fobs ordered - just need to wait for them to arrive...now to find a unit to program them :-)
