There should be plenty of life left in it with only 80,000km. It's probably a good time for a transmission service.
So, despite me cautioning him to do his homework, he went a bought a D3 from a dealer. It's a 2008 SE TDV6, with ~80,000km on the clock, and according to him appears very well looked after.
It has log books from Austral, but I'm yet to look at them. Not that I'm any authority on any vehicle, let alone a D3, but I'm healthily sceptical on buying used cars.
Anyone able to suggest things I should be looking for, either in the vehicle or in the books? Also, anything may be vulnerable for this model at this age?
Finally, is there a list of any recalls, and a way to check whether they've been done?

Buying from a "good" dealer is a great thing. They have an obligation to give you a statutory 3 month warranty which gives you time to sort out anything you find wrong. I saved a fortune on this. Well over $10,000 actually. Make sure you bring it back if you find anything! They have no choice but to fix it.
The 2008 was a good D3 edition as LR had done some tweaks to an already good product in 2007. In late MY08s LR fitted the better oil pump. But the also fitted the ZF with the lead free stator bush. I understand the late 2008s/2009 MY09 D3 got similar electronics to the 2009 MY10 D4.
While the D4 SDV6 is a great car to drive, I think my Discovery pick would be an upspeced D4 with a remapped 2.7 with similar km.

No, I like the interior of the D4. Sorry. A little off topic.
