G'day Gary,, it's good to see they have the problem sorted for you, fixed and all under warranty, as it should be. Maybe extended warranty might be the way to go,, I'm not sure if I have that or not on mine, I think I do, but I'd best check.
Theres plenty of these machines doing hard work in the scrub, so I personally don't think it's "just an urban warrior",, that would make it just a " soft roader ",,, I think not.

There's no such component but probably meant to be a turbo-charger, with the secondary one the likely culprit.

As for the possibility of having been caused by off-road use - utter rubbish!

    Gary,

Don't let a comment from someone that is obviously ill informed - even if they do work at a dealer, make you think these vehicles are not suitable for off road work or the touring you planned to do.

Since Easter, mine has done about 9,500 Km through 4 states. ( SA, Vic, NSW and QLD) without a single problem and I can honestly say I've never had a vehicle I like as much as this one....

While a fair bit of that driving was interstate highways - a large chunk was not - visiting Maralinga, driving Googs Track and exploring other parts of outback South Australia.

My vehicle gets thoroughly maintained - but I do not "baby" it. It goes where I want to go.

Anyone that tries to tell you these vehicles are not off road capable have no idea what they are talking about.

    ..........

I already had my gear setup for touring and general offroad conditions, bullbar, winch, GOE rim and long range tank on the way. There is not turn back now as my mate might think I am on drugs. Should I get an extended warranty to cover the financial, but give up the trip to Simpson and Cape York, many other iconic offroad adventures? Any opinions? It become very costly option now.

    cheers,[/QUOTE]

    Hi Gary,

I was also at the Rawson GOE day. I have the dark grey 2.7 L D 4. I took some videos of you driving you might remember.

I have led 3 desert type trips including a 650 k Simpson desert trip as well as multiple extended high country / snowy river trips without major issues except for tyre punctures!.

Many other people have gone everywhere with the Discos 3 & 4, including the Cape. Check the Youtubes.

Gordon led several Canning SR and Simpson trips with D3/4.

Perhaps Gordon can give you some advice on how to prepare the car for a big trip and what your service people should check prior to a trip.

Our club have a Simpson trip coming up soon and there are at least 2 D4's on the trip. Similarly, there were several D4s on an extended club trip to the Kimberley recently.

I would not give up on the D3/4. I think they are great long distance tourers and can do the hard high country tracks with equal ease.

Thanks, mate. I do some encouragement to keep doing what I love, might be just a bit out of luck since it wasn't easy journey for me. I do love my D4, that is why I refuse to bow to other Japs fans. However, I do feel that I had been let out as others might not think my D4 is capable on simpson or Cape York. Does AULRO victoria organised the Simpson trip or LROCV? might be good to catch up since I hadn't been to their trip. Thinking of organise a data scanning tool to find the fault code and do some simple adjustment, just hate to have restricted performance light come on twice.

    Many Thanks,
    Gary

Was the restricted performance before or after the dealer replaced the turbo? May well be related. If restricted was after turbo replacement then possibly they didn't find the true cause of the issue and it's still there.

Hi, Scott. It happened before I sent it the dealer, may be related. Can those code reader fix some faults, or at least clear restricted performance signal? allow me moving on rather than reduce to 50km/ph.

Depends on the fault. In some cases yes, fault clearing will allow you to keep going as normal. But if the fault is triggered by a failed or faulty component then it will return. However you will have more information on the issue and in many cases know exactly what's wrong.

Good to hear it's all fixed now.

Hi Gary. I think you are just having a run of bad luck. I have done the Simpson and Fraser Island with no issues in my D4. You should absolutely have a code reader. I have the Gap Diagnostics tool. I also have a small ser of outback spares now as per the outback spares sticky thread. My dealer told me spares were not needed as the cars are so reliable but I got all after market brands to save some money. You should not ne concerned about anything other than you dealer possibly.

    D4 on white smoke!

Dealer might have been talking turbo actuator. These sometimes get stuck on the RRV tdv8 3.6. Fixed with WD40 or penetrating oil, then 3 in 1 oil.
