My Review & Experiences of Bluespark Pro + Boost Tuning Chip

    Hello everyone,

I just thought I would do a brief write up on my experience with the following performance chip:
Bluespark Pro + Boost Diesel Chip Tuning Box for Land Rover-Discovery 2.7 TDV6 Mid 2006+ | Improve Power and MPG with our Tuning Boxes

I was looking to increase the performance of my discovery but I didn’t want to spend the +1000 AUD for a chip. In my option if you are spending that kind of money a dyno and custom tune is what you should be getting. I had previous experience with the bluespark CR Tech chip which I like and thought was good value. This chip is top chip bluespark make and tunes your diesel fuel and turbo boost so it is dual channel. As such they claim near factory EGTs are maintained. I can’t comment on that yet as I haven’t fitted my EGT gauge yet but will update when I can test.

Installation was very easy and took around 15mins including cable tying and making everything neat.
Here are some pics of the install process:

There is a definite improvement felt, mostly in overall torque. There is less turbo lag and you can really feel a fast acceleration and improved overtaking. I have only tested the chip on the maximum setting so far and I have noticed a drop of around 1-2L per 100km. I am now going through the process of testing the economy maps for general city driving. I will update this thread once I have completed it.

    Overall
I would say this is a great value product, they are a helpful company and have responded to my email queries quickly before and after buying the chip. Bluespark appear to be used a lot overseas, with positive experience, I’m surprised there aren’t more people in AUS running their chips. Overall, I would recommend this product if you are in the market for a good value way of improving your performance.

My Review & Experiences of Bluespark Pro + Boost Tuning Chip

And being a tuner, I would strongly recommend people avoid ANY piggy back box of ANY make on ANY vehicle...

Anything that intercepts rather than a correct rewrite of an ECU runs serious risk of reducing engine life..

In this instance the Chip raises Rail pressure (bad) whilst monitoring boost... a good way to shorten Pump life.

A remap will adjust timing, pulse length etc and do the fuelling properly. No contest as to why you pay a bit more... And you get a Fault code reader included My Review & Experiences of Bluespark Pro + Boost Tuning Chip

Yea a proper dyno tune is definitely better and I'd do it except people want 1000-1600 to load a pre configured standard map.

    No thanks

And would also include an EGR blank as well.

As Tombie said, you only get what you pay for.

IMHO,I wouldn't risk destroying or damaging an engine.

    Egr is blanked

Plenty of people run chips from reputable manufacturers without issues. I think people buy ebay chips has ruined reputable chips names.

I totally agree a tune is superior but if a decent chip can get you 70% of the way there for 25% of the cost why not?

I'm surprised there are so few landy people here running chips, heaps of other euro cars and jap cars run chips with no issues.

Heaps run chips AND have issues...
And most of them throw the vehicle away in 1-2 years...

There is no such thing as a Good Interceptor
Box - 70% there for what equates to 50% of the cost of a quality remap that stresses HP pump and engine using a generic "Flood it with fuel" approach.. is hardly a quality install...

The fact you're defending it so hard is either cognitive dissonance OR financial interest...

    i agree with tombie.

if tuning without a dyno is so easy, why didnt the manufacturer do it in the first place?

a tune has to be individual for the the engine, they all wear and perform differently. also driving style and use come into it.

ive used a nistune for years on my s14a. nistune is a piggyback/daughterboard. 274kw from a 2l engine. never once did i tune without a dyno. if it making other changes like fuel pressure, you need to have the supporting mods. some chips just advance timing which is usually just stupid.

a base tune with no chip starts about $600.
add $600 for a piggyback chip or 1-2k for a full ecu replacement.

great thing about my ls1, no chip needed. fully tuneable!!!

I dont get it, I never said tuning without a dyno was easy. I also never said plug and play chips were better than a custom tune. You can load generic tunes without dyno across the same configuration cars.

The entire time I have said a dyno tune is the best option and my preference but I didn't want to pay the crazy prices or options I had access to here in Perth.

All I did was post my experiences in an open forum about a product that I purchased. Then a professional tuner accused my of cognitive dissonance or looking to benefit financially which I find extremely ironic.

Theres many similar positive experiences talked about online in other forums eg in the porsche, bmw Audi with these chips. In that community people seem to be interested and share experiences and even dyno charts. Maybe this community just isn't as open to new ideas or something different. Every other chip thread i could find here resulted in the similar bashing. Maybe I was foolish expecting something different

Before buying this chip I called around about tuning, one company (not naming) who is an Australian wide company wanted $1600 to load a pre set up tune, no dyno, and not even a shop here. Just someone with a laptop and the rights to sell their tunes on the west coast. The same tune they continue to load on other discos and tweak from the passenger seat.

I'm in Perth if I could have got a custom dyno tune for $600 I would have jumped at it. Cheapest quote I had was $1500.
