Which Disco to buy second hand

					Hi there.
I am considering buying a Landcover Discovery 4 2015-2016. I am a little obsessed with them. I love the big boxy shape. People think they are ugly. I think they are beautiful. I have had a read through your posts and they have been very helpful. I do have some concerns and I guess I just want someone to help me justify spending that much money on a car.
 1. The cost - are they worth the money.
 2. I can either get a 2015 HSE or a 2016 SE. Which one?
 3. Underground parking and height limits. I did read all the information on a previous post about this.
 4. I was hoping that kms would be around the 20 to 30k mark. What is a good amount of kms?
 5. I not sure what a reasonable price would be. They seem to differ so much. I was hopeing around 85k. Am I dreaming?
I think I would like a white one as that would be the most practical option. The black does look nice though and it would be garaged.
Usage is pretty much soccer mum, just to work and around town and the occasional road trip and some trips to Sydney (I live on the Central Coast). I won't be taking it off road, at least not for the first 10 years.
Also there does not seem to be many around for sale. I have been trolling the internet. Any tips or where to buy?
As you can see I am a bit lost with it all. Thanks in advance for your guidance. Happy travels.

Firstly, welcome to the forum. Plenty of good info here. A good place to start perusing would be the Disco 4 section -
 https://www.aulro.com/afvb/l319-discovery-3-and-4-a/

and the associated FAQ page -
The AULRO Discovery 3/4 & RRS FAQ

That should get you started! I'm sure others will be along shortly to better answer some of your queries. BTW, I talked my sister and brother in law into buying a D4 after coming from a Prado and before that a Patrol. They almost bought a 200 Series Cruiser until they drove the Disco. Deal was done 10 minutes later. They are a fantastic car and well worth it. Good luck!

					Short answers first:

 1) HSE or SE - if you're wedded to memory seats, sunroof and Land Rover's (very ordinary) sat nav, you'll need the HSE. But to be honest, the SE is all you need. You should be able to get a 2016 SE with 10 to 15k on the clock for $80K, no more. I bought mine (white) in Sydney with 7,000km on the clock for exactly that in March.

 2) Go with white. They look awesome in white.

 3) underground car parks aren't a problem, unless you have a loaded up roof rack.

 4) I got mine from Alto Land Rover in Sydney, it was a demo. My brother just bought exactly the same car from Barbagallo in Perth. There aren't many left, and they get snapped up pretty quickly.

But I have to ask the question - they're massively over-engineered for mere soccer-mum duties. Aren't you better off with something like a Kia Sorrento, for less money and a 7 year warranty, brand new?

Thanks Greg. I know its a bit much for a soccer mum but I have always wanted a big boxy car and they are rare these days. Its either the Disco or a Prado. I currently have a 2015 Mazda CX5 Grand Touring. Really nice car but I have had buyers remorse. I made the "sensible" choice when I bought it. Its just too small. I just really love the disco. I love the shape, the full 7 seats, the grill, the lights, the split back etc. etc.
I will keep definitely keep my eye out for an SE.

Oh, in that case, your choice is clear. I had a Prado years ago. Now THAT is a soccer mum car. Go the Disco. But for god's sake, get it dirty.
Anyhoo, I'm off to the Kimberley in mine. Tomorrow, as it happens
