    Crazy spare wheel stowage position.....

    Hi Guys,
    I'm still in my planning stage for purchase of a D4.
    Can some one please confirm;
    With the rear seats (third-row) raised to the 'in-use' position, will a spare wheel fit between the seat back, and the tailgate/upper rear door?

    Reason;
    I plan to buy/fit a long-range tank as this is a requirement for our trips from Vic to SA at night. I can justify the price of a long range tank.
    I am not sure I can justify the price of a SWC. I will need to use all 7-seats, and I don't like spare tyres on the roof(rack).

    Cheers,
    Adam.

    No it wont fit, I tried it when I first purchased our car , it had the long range tank already fitted but no RWC. Unless maybe you could source a very skinny rim and tyre. Even if you did manage to squeeze it in I am not sure I would want to be in the back with a wheel & tyre missile sitting behind 1 of the 3rd row seats.

    I am assuming the D3 & D4 are the same.

    Cheers Ean

    You got no chance of fitting a spare behind the seats in the raised position. Not much room for anything there really and the space decreases the higher up the backrest you go.

    If you can loose one seat, I have seen a photo of one mounted vertically against the side of the cargo area, sort of like how the spare was positioned in a RRC.

    Nah Ean, not for my plans. I've moved enough Jerry Cans in my few years travelling. Also it's disruptive to sleeping children.

    I too have seen this Chris. Would prefer 2 kids in the rear, and two in the middle row. Your suggestion is definately an option however, Cheers :-)
