You can pretty much 100% toss the remote area servicing line comparison out nowadays too. All the toyota nissan Mitsubishi crowd are in the same boat with overly complex onboard systems. Some of which are show stoppers and flatbedto dealer issues.
Choose the vehicle that they enjoy driving the most as that is a big consideration. Life is too short.

    Yeah and there’s still a big difference between a 2003 D2 and 2005 D3.

I think the fear is, or was, the proximity of the nearest LR dealer. All marques can break down, the question is the frequency and cost in $ and time to repair.

Toyota and nissan etc don't carry enough parts etc anyway. They certainly have lost the ball

Parts can be air freighted over night to almost any town so the issue then becomes can someone fit them locally or does the car have to be trucked to the nearest suitable workshop. I think LR loses out there as it is difficult to get someone to work on them. Even changing the oil is a bit specialized for the D4!

I had my D4 serviced at the Darwin dealer in August and specifically asked them not to touch the drain plugs and to suck out the oil, since one of my plugs has been stripped by some thug and is no longer useable after Rovertech fixed a massive oil leak I was getting due to the stripped thread. To my horror they told me when I picked it up how they broke a bolt on the sump guard when removing it to change the oil! When I asked why they were taking plates off they said mine was a 3 litre with no dip stick so they couldn't suck the oil out! I couldn't be bothered telling them about the tube provided to allow the oil to be sucked out.

Apparently they used the second drain plug because the proper one was U/S. You just never know what will happen!!

Not if the parts are still in Japan. 2 weeks minimum. JLR are way more organised in my experience

In my experience (which is a little dated now, I will admit) LR will actually airfreight anything that physically fits into an aircraft, at no charge to the customer. Whereas a lot (all?) of the Asian brands won't.
