Well thats not saying there is any issues with the car, more the issue lies with their owners

Are you able to re arrange some of your 'expectations' and sift out the bits and pieces that you don't actually need or use. In other words try and shed some weight. Sort of trying to apply the KISS theory. That might be a whole lot cheaper and simpler to do.
    Cheers, Simmo
    Hi Simmo.
Parking the RAM wont be much fun. It is 6m long and has a 13+m turning circle. Manouvering the van will also be more difficult. Luckily we have a smaller sensible car for when we are back in Sydney so that helps.

We have been "dieting" the van. We have removed what we dont use. Its a strong and heavy van to start with. Add 300l (kg) of water for when we go free camping and it quickly gets too heavy. Essential toys like 2 bikes also add weight. We like the van and dont really want to sell it.

If remote go a 70 series cruiser then mod it to suit. If east coast then get a low km f250/350 that ford aust imported as their will be back up.
Or get a gvm upgrade on your current rig.
With a truck unless you do some serious reworking of sispension and seats it will be very very rough
We do go to remote areas and plan to do more. The D4 has taken us for a 3/4 lap so far and has done really well with not even a flat tyre.

GVM upgrades dont really help. Its the GCM (Gross Combined Weigh) that needs to go up from the D4's 6740. I need about 7500+.

I am taking a RAM for a test drive next week...if the ride is that bad then ...i dont know what I will do. I dont like the ford option as the right hand drive conversions done lately havent been done very well.

A 130 has a turning circle of about 15.8m and is 5.2m long, not a lot of difference really

I'm not aware of one and with the air suspension I thought it would be unlikely that anyone would do one.

Yes we looked into the Iveco. 470nm torque would be tough after having 600 in the D4. The 6.7l RAM produces 1084nm of torque.

Also the Daily can only tow 3500kg trailers.

I agree, it is more the width of these vehicles on Australian bush tracks that is the issue, The length can also be an issue, but no more than an Iveco or similar. The weight can also be a minor issue in mud and sand. We have had Iveco fire appliances and have not had too many dramas with them, no more than normal anyway. The Iveco 4x4 set up is way better than any of the pick up trucks.
Don't get me wrong I would love a big Chevy or Ram, but just to expensive and impractical if you want to use off road here. The price is also BS best part of $140k here, then add extras. A friend of mine in the US bout a Ram earlier this year with all the fruit inc on road for $42. A $100k mark up to buy one here is a joke.
