About to change Brakes to fit 17" rims

Master cylinder isn't an issue.

Don't forget to get the 2.7 dust shields.

I've been running 2.7 brakes for nearly 5 years now. The smaller brakes work very well and I've had no issues, ABS, ESC and traction control all work as they should. The more powerful motors (SDV6 and V8) can overpower the traction control if you apply too much throttle. Gordon from GOE suggested that the smaller brakes could be overworked if the traction control was working hard but I haven't seen that although I do have an e-diff.

I'm running Akebono pads on OEM rotors, on the last trip away I towed my 3T caravan from Sydney down to Araluen which has a steep winding road down to it, I didn't experience any brake fade or lack of performance.

When I wear these pads out (which seems like it will be a while), I'm going to swap back to the original brakes as I'm selling my 17" wheels. I just can't be bothered swapping over wheels anymore now there is some decent AT tyres in 20".

I run 265/65/17 on my D3. Main reason I choose that size is I belive its a common size - factory Prado size so they have good availablitly in most places

That would be good if I can get an 18 “ template. BTW what is the main issue with the 18 LR rims was it a diameter issue or offset. Ie would any Et 44/45 18” rim go on?

43 offset won’t go on - tried it [emoji41]

See attached drawing. The green linework is a measured profile of a LR 18" alloy wheel. I was trying to find a caliper that could utilise the OEM 360Dia rotor but you see that is doesn't fit. Issues are diameter and also clearance to the spokes due to the large + offset. This may be why the caliper is a single side piston design to minimise offset towards the wheel spokes?? You would have to go back to a 350Dia rotor which is where my interest waned and other options become more feasible.

Will LR 17" rims not fit over the 19" dust shields? BMW X5 17" do fit over the 19" shields.

The impact of running JLR 18” wheels against 4 pot Brembos on the front of a RRV tdv8 3.6. These fit the RRV rear just fine. It wasn’t deliberate. I wasn’t looking close enough what wheel is was fitting where.

Thanks for the template. Somehow my Mac just couldn’t scale it but via long hand I came the same conclusion that a rotor and calliper change is required. Certainly the ones from pbbrakes would allow the stock 18” rim to fit I believe. However at a cost of 2k, as u say, other alternatives like the steel wheels are a significantly cheaper option. But if you are chasing an alloy look then changing brakes is an option that gives u quite a range in wheel choice. That may work out cheaper than compomotive and you get a good looking and performing brake kit. At least with the steels available you could settle for 4 compomotives run steels as spares. Perhaps.
