    D4 coolant system

Just had the D4 serviced, and one of the recommendations was to get a coolant flush and have the coolant crossover pipe replaced - they recommend this every 5 years. They say the plastic cross over pipes are prone to failure after this point - the glue deteriorates and they basically fall apart.

Anyone had this happen, or heard of it happening to someone else? Did a search and couldn't seem to find any info about this.

    Cheers

    D4 coolant system

Yes common. It’s the top connector that comes off the v of the engine that’s feeds the top hose to the radiator. I replaced mine recently after 7 years of life, before it failed when I was somewhere remote.

I assume when it happens you cook the engine. Definitely not something I want to do.

One of the mechanics other recommendations was a 2 channel monitoring system for engine and gearbox temp. Worthwhile addition?

Yep, MR. I know they're good and I've been using them for years with my D4 and Defender before that. I'd just never heard of this particular issue before.

Have a big trip planned in July, so I guess I'll be booking in to get this done before hand. Just wish they were a bit closer to the south side!

D4 has coolant loss alarm standard
    And gearbox temp warning...

If you want an all in monitor $88 for an Ultraguage will do it all.

    I here you.

i have done 6 trips there and back from Loganholme in the last few weeks.

No fault of theres or ours,or the vehicles, just the way things have worked out.

Its the traffic congestion which is causing the trip to be a PITA.

Do you know if this part No. is the same for all engine variants. I have a MY11 2.7 diesel and as far as I'm aware, this part has never been replaced on mine.
    Cheers .........

I always include the replacement of these with the timing belt service which saves some labour cost. Defientetly worth replacing
