Sounds a little high, I get better than that towing my camper trailer.

SupporterJust for my reference, what sort of usage figures would others be seeing on a discovery 3 with the following configuration:
Arb bull bar with winch
Aftermarket rai
265/65/18 ko2 tyres
75 litre waeco
4 people in car.
I just did a proper mileage calculation and we have mostly 50 km runs at 100/110 and I was surprised to see it's running at about 13 L/100 km, seems a bit high, what do others think? Is this in the ball park?
We are also about too put a roof rack on top with 2 double swags, and possibly a couple of jerry cans, how much extra are people with this set-up using, just so I can plan fuel stops,(taking for granted of course that Australia will still have fuel later in the year),
And I forgot,a metre long phone antenna..
Cheers James

MY08 TDV6 SE D3- permagrin ooh yeah
2004 Jayco Freedom tin tent
1998 Triumph Daytona T595
1974 VW Kombi bus
1958 Holden FC special sedan
By proper you accounted for tyre diameter change in your distance calculations also?
Mine is an MY12 SDV6 with 164k on the clock. It's a daily commute plus weekend warrior so mix of urban, City and freeway plus alpine tracks.
I average between 7.5ltr/100km on freeway and up to 11ltr/km towing 1.3tonne trailer.
My normal running consumption over last 5000km is 8.3ltr/100km.
No bull bar and only two roof bars.
Hope this helps. Ps weight does not seem to be a factor, stop start is the major determinor
On a run to Broome last year with a roof rack with stuff in a canvas bag that was at best 2feet high my fuel usage went up 2ltrs per 100ks than usual. When I put MT tyres on it increases by another 1ltr per 100kms.
My camper trailer would be lucky to increase the usage by 1ltr per 100ks on the highway but it's not a very big or heavy trailer. We always travel with a fridge in the car but never 4 people.
i drive mine on the tacho more than the speedo, if you watch the tacho at around the 95kmh it seems to change between 5 & 6 a lot and the revs go from about 1400 to 1900. I try to get it to stay in top gear which is usually around 105kmh on my D3
hope this helps.
cheers Ean
Good point.
Mine similar weight,nothing on roof,tyres 265/60/18 KO2's,did 10.2l/100 worked out,not dash readout.No snorkel.
That was on a run of approx 540KM out to St George last week,at night, dodging roos, wallabies, foxes and pigs.....
Probably 2/3 of trip using Cruise Control, set on 105km/hr actual, by the GPS.
This was towing our crossover (1.8t)
Yes I have recalibrated it and it’s correct..
That’s laden, bar, winch, under armour, full Aux tank, wheel carrier, roof rails, awning and Recovery racks.
My average use with my D3 is 13.9L/100km. Bull bar, winch, kaymar rear bar x2 spares, 100L long range tank, platform roof rack etc... on 265/65/17. Best I've ever had was 11L/100km, worst I've seen is 18.45L/100km - towing the camper with loaded roof rack into a head wind all day
