Not everyone is a mechanic.
Outback mechanics often get confused post 1HZ era anyway.

A good mechanic however; will be able to repair if they get parts.

I broke a spring on a trailer (simple camping trailer) in rural Qld and had to wait 3 days for a part to get me going again. That was just when the courier came to town. No one in town had trailer parts at all. Just saying parts don’t live on shelves. BTW I couldn’t even get a 50amp circuit breaker either.

I also just had to replace the battery in my D4 - not 1 AGM battery within 200 Km. Ordered from Melbourne - 2 day wait and I don’t live in a remote location.
    All the best,

    Laurie

I met a guy who had to wait a week in Weipa to get a suspension part for a Jeep Wrangler even though there were daily flights from Cairns.
The mechanic said his workshop was kept busy fixing broken front suspensions on the local mining Hiluxes.

Mate of mine takes the old coaster bus, built into a camper,to the gulf fishing every winter.

two winters ago,on the way there,in the middle of no where, dirt road,he runs over a piece of metal that flicks up and puts a hole in the sump.

Towed to the next small town,by some local aborigines, and wonders how long it will take to get another sump,or get this one fixed.

Goes to the small garage in the town, and the local mechanic doesn’t have one,but has two sumps in the junk out the back.

They clean up the best one and fit it next morning,on his way.

    I am pretty sure it has a IHZ,but can’t remember,definitely a diesel.

I have found that many bush mechanics/workshops will be prepaired to think outside the square and improvise and use whatever they have available to get you going again.
Not so much in the city.

    That’s the thing..

It takes quite a bit to make something a show stopper..

Sometimes it’s PPPPPP and other times it’s ingenuity that gets you going...

Mechanical awareness and sympathy - being attuned to how the vehicle ‘normally’ sounds and feels and then being aware when something doesn’t feel or sound the same can be a vehicle saver.

    Don’t blare the tunes!

Obviously. ...if it’s a good mechanic, yes. But this is about the fact that there are very few good mechanics in regional / remote areas who welcome Land Rovers.

Yes some bush mechanics are awesome, salt of the earth people, particularly in remote areas. As are most locals. ...but many mechanics aren’t so helpful either IME. it’s not a good feeling to be refused service due to the brand of vehicle you drive.

Probably because you spend all your time bagging the product you drive and whining about outback mechanics.

If your experience is that most aren’t helpful.. perhaps there’s a common denominator D4 2010 3.0 TDV6 future proofing
