I have taken my D2a into site a couple of times as well but that doesn't make it a mine vehicle.

I haven't owned any of the Toyota SUV's so I don't know how involved the electronics are on these But I am willing to bet that there would be more country workshops out there with Toyota diagnostic gear than there would with Landrover gear.
Care to hazard a guess how much tech is in a current 7X? You may be surprised..

And the 7X is renowned for corrosion failures on Alternator and Starter - and it’s always fun doing a mid V mounted starter!!!

Yes, but at least the body doesn't have to come off, although most of whats in the engine bay does

I have got the best of both worlds.
I have a discovery AND a 79 series and both are in Good order and are ready and future proofed for the big lap in a couple of weeks.
Regardless of which "Brand" you are driving a FULL service and checking that Everything is fit for purpose BEFORE you head off on a trip is vitally important.
New hoses and belts is a good idea and you can carry the old ones as spares also making sure that your tyres are at least 60% before you go is good insurance as well.

    Yes it’s a significant job.

Body off isn’t a bad thing I can assure you. It’s quick, easy to do and you can complete other jobs very easily.

And never service right before a trip.
Get it done a few weeks before you leave and drive it around a bit..

Another thing that too many people ignore to check is the condition of their battery.
If you are unable to check the condition of the battery yourself get it checked at one of the battery places and if it is even only a little bit suspect change it out while you can get one at a reasonable price as buying one beyond the black stump will be super expensive and the battery you get may have spent years on the shelf.

👍 ...exactly. Which is why a network of Land Rover workshops and people who know and want to fix more than a red 186 (a metaphorical 1HZ) is necessary. ...forget autonomous vehicles, we need to work on cloning you JC, or buy you a lear jet!

Dude, Yes we can all order anything we want online (if we have an internet connection). ... Its not about parts on the shelf + we’re not talking about capital cities! ...it’s about the lack of mechanics with the experience, knowledge and inclination outside the cities to diagnose and fit the parts. Not everyone is a mechanic.
