EPB. Why?

You all seem to forget the Driveline Drum was/is known to get jammed with mud etc, the shoes known to jam or worse get oil contaminated, the cable stretches easily, they’re known to slip too.

And of course as they wear people reef them on harder often preventing many a fairer person from releasing it one handed.

Tombie I have had a good run from my d1 and d2 and the handbrakes have never caused any issues. Your point about the fairer sex is well made. Overall though EPB isn't one of LR's finest engineering marvels IMHO. Cheers

Should have been serviced properly before the trip, just like anything mechanical that needs servicing.

Never had an issue because they have been serviced/adjusted correctly on the D1 and D2? Or never touched at all and never played up?

I've never had an issue with my D4 EPB in almost 4 years. It gets adjusted every 6-12 months (part of service or by me if between services) and cleaned after big or muddy trips, which is not difficult.

Adjustments done twice on each but we are talking 300,000 and 23 years for the d1 and 330,000 and 16 years for d2 so 4 years doesn't do a lot for me. I have a good mate with a 16 year old D2 that he too has owned since new and I don't think his has ever been done [emoji847]...220,000k for his. It's not a stretch (no pun intended) to conclude that the lever activated driveline brake is best. Cheers

It wasn't intended to. I was making the point that the EPB can be trouble-free if looked after appropriately.

You've had a good run but a quick search in the D2 section here suggests that's not always the case.

Please note I'm not looking for a D2 versus D3/D4 snore-fest or even old versus new handbrakes. Just pointing out that older technology isn't perfect just as new isn't either.
I'm suggesting that there's plenty of things on any vehicle that need to be looked after & the EPB on a D3 or D4 is one of them.

Even with all of the above they are still much more problematic than a simple cable system.

never had an issue in any of the cars ive own with a nor EPB. they just work.
