Oil Change Sucker

I bought an eBay oil sucker but couldn't make it work. I plunged the small plastic tube down the "dipstick" pipe (there is no dipstick) as far as I could but only a tiny bit of oil came out. I could hear a sucking noise through the pipe as though the tube had not made it to the bottom of the sump but I could not push it in any further. I eventually gave up and did the oil change via the sump plug (messy and a tight squeeze). There were no suitable sized rubber bits on the tube to fit around the pipe to make a good seal so I gave up but but should I try to make this work instead of plunging a tube down the pipe? Does the "dipstick pipe go all the way to the bottom of the sump?

Yes it goes right to the bottom next to the sump plug. There are some bends in the pipe, which is probably why you couldn't reach the bottom.

Apart from the dealer in Darwin who didn't know that the tube existed and couldn't do it because it had no dip stick, all of my oil changes are carried out via this tube. I don't know how they connect to it though.

You don’t stick the tube down the hole. You attach the sucker TO the tube and suck the oil up the engine mounted tube.
Use a piece of rubber hose to join your sucker to the metal tube and magic happens.

Mine came with three different size sucker hoses each with a rubber bung. Use one of the bungs on the end of a hose to seal the join between hose and steel pipe.

Are you changing the oil filter with each oil change?

If so isn’t it just as easy to do both while you are under there?

I you’re not changing the filter then it makes sense.

??? The filter is on the top of the engine, at least on a 3.0L

I was thinking about the petrol. Been watching too many American videos.

Waiting for my first service kit so now I know where the filter is.

I see the benefit of the sucker now.

Easiest oil changes I've ever done. No oil up to the arm pits or over the floor and takes just a couple of minutes. I let it suck out most then I change the filter and then reattach it and it sucks out even more.
But I do wish there was dipstick so I could check the oil level, plus, if I was to use the stealer instead of an independent while under warranty, if it had been changed or not......

After failing on my first attempt and doing it the hard (old) via the sump plug and the associated mess I thought I would try again via the tube. After a few tries I finally got the right connector on the tube and a few pumps later out came the oil.

I presume the pipes goes all the way to the bottom of the sump?
