    D4 control arm replacement,again

    Hi everyone,

Just had the D4 (my2011,2.7L with 110k on the odo) in for a service and have been told the control arms need replacement again, this will be the 3rd set of arms in the car.

Is this a known issue or am I driving wrong???? At $1650 to replace it’s starting to wear thin, seems like a pretty exey quote as well.

Any input with others with similar experience or advice appreciated.

    Cheers
    Mike

The rear bush on the bottom arm is a common wear item. If the agent is replacing the arm rather than the bush then yes, I’d understand that. That’s a high price though.
As for how often? My car lived on road for its first 200k km and had one replacement in that time. Off-road does increase that exponentially. You can get more resilient bushes from overseas for no noticeable increase in NVH. Look up AdvancedFactors. Order them in yourself and have them fitted.

I've put superpro bushes in the lower rear bush of the front arm on dad's 2010 disco 4. Can't complain with the ride or harshness of them. They were less than $200 for the parts. Can't comment about longevity as they haven't been in long. Part number SFP3456K
It doesn't leak oil, Its sweating power

My 2011 D4 (SDV6) had it's first lot of replacement bushes recently after 232,000kms. Bush replacement only, done by indy. Total cost including labour $627 not including wheel alignment, which was done but not charged for because of other reasons.

The rear bushes and new eccentric bolts cost me about $270 in parts, plus another $400 for the tool to change them on the car. Took me a while to do them but I was twice as quick on the 2nd side

I changed the bottom front wishbones around 170000km with a set of heavy-duty wishbones from Advance Factors
I replaced the top front wishbones around 190000km with an HD set from Advance Factors
I replaced the rear airbags and struts at 200000, just in case and just replaced the rear top wishbones.

Thanks for all the advice everyone and thanks Tony for the club code and the details of your setup.

Ill have a look at some of the aftermarket options you have all suggested and also clarify from the mechanics exactly what is worn out as I was told the arms need replacing. I assumed it was the whole assembly.

    cheers

RE replacement of suspension parts in D3

Just some indications on how D3 suspension bits can wear or need replacing from my own experience.
    My 2007 D3 has covered 460,00k,
Replaced the front lower arms at 200k and again at 300k, then changed the bushes in front lower arms (rather than whole arm) at 370K, and that set still in service 100k later.
Top arms and bushes have never been touched.
New steering rack at 300k (internal wear, but no leaks)
Have just had all the original air struts replaced after noticing a small leak somewhere in the system, and as they were the original legs, I thought best option just replace the lot (whole unit, new shocks and airbags).
Car now on its 3rd air pump, but last pump fitted was the upgraded pump now in D4's and trust that will be end of pump problem (for a while).
Rear suspension arms all still original, did have a rear stabiliser bar bush replaced about 300k.
85% of my K's are on bitumen and long distance driving, so not much stress from off road activity, and that may be key to how long suspension bits last.
