Ah, yes. The old "Us and them" syndrome.
If you don't agree with me, you must be one of them.
It's a construct in your mind. It's not reality.
This split the Mini Club quite some years back. They have now rejoined. Most of them don't know what the original split was over. I don't.
It also split another forum I was on. The, to the splitters, "Us" group eventually rejoined. To me, both groups were in the "Them" group.
Confused? I am. Why are there "Us" and "Them" when we are a collection of individuals? I can tell you, amongst the group I sometimes socialise with, we have some things in common and some differences with. The things in common unite us but, the differences don't cause us to battle each other.
Or, at least I didn't think so.
Maybe I should bring a battle axe and shield to our next BBQ.

						Hello All,
Good old Cultural Studies at its finest. Binary opposition. This can be extended to headings above the two columns where: Acceptable is inferred above the "us" column. Whereas, "Deviant" is inferred above the "them" column.
Dwell on these binaries too long and "isms" start to form. Cultural Studies - damn fine stuff!
Kind regards
Lionel

I enjoyed Tombie's interaction … did he jibe or stray? …. probably on occasions. But his technical input was always on point I thought.
I've been on the forum for years and I've had some spats over some things I took to heart (not with Tombie as I recall) …. got pulled up a couple of times …. and then just applied a filter around what I was or was not interested in....and I don't mean electronic filter :-)
But we should still be able to have a robust convo ….
I enquired about his welfare within the forum and was assured at the time …. which has been backed up now, that he's OK …. which I'm very happy about. :-)
Clique?....I've been a member since 2010 …. I've never been aware of one …. does that mean I'm not in? …… seriously …? Damn …. I always wanted to be popular :-P

SupporterSo....can anyone tell me whether I'm in or out?
It's driving me up the wall with worry..... If I'm not, break it to me gently please
I'm with Tombie. When the actual OWNER of the forum will come on and question if I am running some conspiracy agenda, it's time to leave. Some of you will be pleased to know, that's what I'm doing.
So long, and thanks for all the fish. I'll miss some of you, even you, bee utey....
