I thought I'd read the same. A shame as I like the look of steelies & they're more affordable.

    maxxis bravo 980 LT 265 60 r18

Sort of by mistake I had Maxxis bravo 980 LT 265 60 r18 put on in Ceduna SAa few weeks ago. They were the only AT option I could get inside 24 hours and I needed tires. Only 2000km on them and no 4wding yet.

They look a little like the BFGs I feel. a little road noise. I had Pirelli At on my prior D3. Pirelli At are much quieter than the maxxis and the prior General Grabbers I had.

Video of Maxxis Bravo ( advertising )

I suspect the maxxis will be better off road then the Pirelli. Noise wise I an not fussed by the Maxxis. The Pirellis seemed to be wearing a little better than the General Grabbers I had on before them.

The Pirelli AT+ tread pattern is nothing like the now superseded ATR was.

Ive narrowed it down to ST Maxx 265/60/R18 as likely the best option. The 60's are much commoner around Oz than the 65's (apparently) and the tyre bloke said it makes more sense to go with the 60's.

I'm told the AT3 XLTs are quieter on the road, but I dont think they do them in the size I want.

    Any feedback appreciated.

A point you might need to consider is whether you want Light Truck rated tyres or not. If you are doing a lot of gravel roads then I believe they are a “must”. Last time I checked the Cooper AT3 came in either highway or Light truck construction so it would pay to be clear about what you’re getting before you make a decision. I imagine the highway ones would be quieter because of the thinner sidewalls and lighter construction.

Compared to K02’s they’re not only quiet but a lot smoother in feel

    I’ve only tried K02’s and D697’s - can’t comment on other brands.

My D697's are the only tyre I have had on the D3 in the 3 years I've owned it. I run 3 pairs of wheels and the oldest pair have clocked 40K. I have never noticed any road noise from them and they have done mostly black top kms.

Have 2 Hiluxes on site at the moment travelling the same paths daily. Identical utes, identical size one with BFG ATKO 2 the other B/Stone D697s. Put rocks through two of the BFGs tread this week, D697s still going strong.

They're also quieter, and much cheaper....

I'll be buying another set of D697s when the non punctured tread wears out on the D4.
