Tyre options for 18" rims on a D3

    Gidday,

Just about to take delivery of 18" Tuffant rims for the D3 and kicking ideas around for tyres. I have had Coopers recommended (over BFG) by a couple of guys that should know. The bad wear issues seem to have been fixed.

Ive narrowed it down to ST Maxx 265/60/R18 as likely the best option. The 60's are much commoner around Oz than the 65's (apparently) and the tyre bloke said it makes more sense to go with the 60's.

I'm told the AT3 XLTs are quieter on the road, but I dont think they do them in the size I want.

    Any feedback appreciated.

    Chris

Keen to hear the latest recommendations as well.

Im ditching my KO2’s as they’re too noisy. I have and are looking for 265/65/18 again but I take your point on readily available options when travelling remote

The 265/60/18 is a common size for the JAP and Thailand brigade.

On my second set of BFG,on the D4,no issues at all.

Slightly noisey at around 60 to 70KM/hr,but i can put up with that if i don't have to use the jack.

I am well overdue tyres & am considering the Falken Wildpeak at3w. They are really affordable & most of the reports I have read seem good. I would also go the 265/60 so as to fit the spare wheel carrier.

285/60 is a standard Land Cruiser size... well supported generally, but admittedly not as well as 265/60. Tyre choice comes down to usage and abusage

You do realise that dynamic make a rim for the D3 that is probably half or less than tuffant cost, tuffants are great for D4/5 that require them but overkill for a D3.

The offset for Dynamics isn’t legal last time I checked.

Unless you have your heart set on an LT, have a look at the Pirelli AT+ in either 255/60 or 265/60 as they have a very open tread but are reportedly quiet. I will soon fit mine in 275/55R20 size.
