    Noisy drivers window motor

After 7 years and 185k driving I have recently noticed my drivers widow being much more noisy when closing (up) than the others in the car, but almost silent when going down.

Unsure if it's the motor or possibly mechanism needs clean and grease.

Any advise? Anyone already investigated the window mechanism?

Interesting. Mine did that the other day but hasn’t done it since.

Seems to have started this year since Xmas and is consistent in the noisy level on upward travel, not intermittent.

Really prefer not to pull the door apart...

    Tip,

First silicone spray the window guides, and the dust seals on the top of the door that the glass slides through.

Its a common issue on our work vans, and the spray sorts them out for ages.Seems to happen more in humid weather.

Seems logical, cheap and easy first step. I'll give it a try tomorrow night and report back. Thanks

Ok, liberally sprayed silicon in the side channels plus dust seals, absolutely no difference except silicon on the glass .

So how hard is it going to be to open up the door to access glass lift motor?

Ok, removing door card on MY12 HSE not that hard, 15 minute job first time and probably 10 if I need to do it again. Also pulled out the rubber seals either side of glass and removed motor from the door.

All to no effect, motor was silent when removed and operated, glass slides smoothly up and down, no noticeable dirt in door, siliconed and cleaned everything, reassembled and noise is back (but intermittent).

Suspect the gears attached to the motor maybe nylon and are wearing out? Didn't want to pull apart the gear box for fear I wouldn't be able to put it back together... anyone with experience here? Prefer not to spend over $200 unless I'm certain it's the root cause.

    Noisy drivers window motor

Is it feasible to swap the motor with one from the less frequently or never used rear door?

Unsure, I believe front and back are different, however left and right may be compatible.

Maybe as a test but not keen on just transferring the fault elsewhere.
