Greetings All, Just had Redarc Towpro Elite brake controller professionally installed on my LR D4. Today, off to pick up the new camper trailer only to find that when we towed it out of the dealer's yard the brakes immediately started pouring smoke and stench. As if they were on override when, in fact, the controller switch LED was on blue/proportional (as it should be). Dial on 3 (low). Anderson plug installed at same time as controller. Any ideas? Dealer assures me that the handbrake wasn't left on (he was the last to attend to this bit). Electrics plugged into right hand D4 socket. We towed it back at low speed with brakes disconnected. Now searching for an explanation and a solution. thanks

						SubscriberThere are three possible reasons,
1, The brake controller has been installed incorrectly. See here for the correct way to fit one D4 Electric Trailer Brake Wiring
2, Your trailer wiring is incorrect (Not using the Australian standard pin wiring).
3, The brake controller is faulty.

Or it's part of the recent redarc tow pro recall! Look it up.
Unless it's wired up according to the REDARC guide here Wire Up Your Tow-Pro Elite - Wiring Diagrams | REDARC Electronics there's a strong chance it will fault.
One of the key installation failures has been taking a 12V feed from a second battery whereas it must be wired correctly to the starting battery as it requires an ignition pulse.
You have not mentioned what sort of braking system your camper has which is important as well. For example discs or drums and which sort of either

Were the D4's parkers or headlights on? If so then there's a good chance that a specific wire en-route to the trailer socket hasn't been cut to prevent the D4's second parker supply providing power directly to the trailer's brakes.
