Definitely change filters and oils.
Before our most recent Kimberley trip, my average indicated fuel consumption was about 9l/100km. I’ve noticed since returning home it seems to be hovering around 11.
I’ve booked it in for a service inc trans oil this week, and will ask the dealer about it then, but for the life of me can’t figure out what’s going on.
We live in regional WA so most of my driving is not stop start city stuff. (No traffic lights in Dunsborough
The only thing I can think of is the air filter, which is a bit the worse for Kimberley dust.

Definitely change filters and oils.
Clean MAFs also
Greg can you list everything done to the vehicle since prior to the trip? Tyre diameter changes? Roof rack and extra accessories fitted?

SubscriberThis shows the average consumption since the readout was last reset. When did you last reset it? If you haven't reset it since you got back it will still be using your high consumption during your trip into the calculated average. It could take months of your 'normal' driving to get the average back down to your pre-trip levels.
I use a phone app Road Trip Lite Road Trip MPG Lite on the App Store to calculate my fuel usage at every fill up. This shows your average since starting using the app and your usage between fill ups. The screen shot shows my old D2, the spikes are trips when I was towing.

Put a new air filter in and cleaned the MAFS this afternoon.
Zeroed the A odometer when I filled up last week so it should be recording indicated usage as of then.
Over the course of the 6,000km trip I used 13.79l/100km (measured, not indicated) of which half was towing. On the way home without the trailer from Broome I was often cruising at 120 to 130kmh so I expect that would be using fuel heavily.
it will be interesting to see what difference the fresh filter makes in the next week or so.
No rook rack, just roof bars, a couple of max trax and an awning, have left that gear on top since returning, had that all up top before we left for a few weeks as well.
Essentially, all things are equal.

SubscriberZeroing the odometer does not zero the trip/consumption computer. You need to press and hold the select button on the end of the indicator stalk to reset the trip/consumption computer.
Ignore the above information, it is not correct for a D4. But it is correct if you have a Ford Ranger or Toyota Hilux

The MAP sensor is worth cleaning regularly (using a spray cleaner) although it should be OK after the towing and high speed driving.
