I am about to leave Mareeba Qld on Thursday to head off for Normanton via Chillagoe and on to Arnhem Land via the Savannah Way.
I have plugged in my Gap tool and my iPad app says it has found the tool and then comes up with a message “Tool does not respond”.
It is showing as paired to my iPad and the app knows about it from when I first used it but I have absolutely no communication with it.
I am concerned that if I have an issue while in a remote area my having the tool will be no help at all.
Does anyone know how to rectify this issue please

SubscriberI've been using the GAP tool recently with an Android device and have had the same issue intermittently. I haven't done a thorough diagnosis but it maybe to do with the order you connect the unit and whether the ignition is on or off at the time. Try a combination of starting the app then connecting the device or vice versa. Other things like restarting the ipad, turning off and on the bluetooth service may help. Other than that an email to GAP will be answered the next day.

The apps all updated recently.
When was the last time you attached the tool to the PC and ran it’s update program?

SubscriberI had a similar problem recently when in Simpson Desert.
It was telling me to go to an area with WiFi connection and do required update.
No help when in desert with faults coming up.

SubscriberThanks, yes I did a firmware update just the other day when I started having trouble. I think I may have chosen the wrong firmware. At the moment I’m in and out of range and am not in a place where I can rectify it. Hopefully tomorrow.

SubscriberOk so here’s an update.
Last night I was back in range and was able to update the firmware on the tool. Also double checked the IIDControl app was up to date. Plugged the tool in and confirmed it was connected via Bluetooth. The app sees it and says it’s collecting data from the tool but then displays the message “tool does not respond”. I sent this information to Gap in Canada and their response, which I received this morning, is that the tool appears to be faulty and they will replace it.
Great service from Gap.
