I've just finished towing a 6.7M/2.5T boat 4,000 km to the NT and back with my 2015 D4 TDV6, and thought I would share some data from my Gap tool which I had plugged in for much of the trip as I wanted to monitor temps.

38 - 40 degrees C outside temp and 100 kph in Sports mode.

    Coolant temp: 98 - 104oC
    Sump oil temp: 126 - 129oC
Transmission oil temp: 94 - 100oC (generally 6oC less than the coolant.
Most in 7/8 gear - occasionally 6th for a bit of a climb.
    17.5 L/100 km

Awesome Barraman, would love to see the same data for say a 200 series or D-Max / Ranger. I reckon the fuel usage would be 4-5l/100km higher at least.

And the shame of driving an esky. Seriously, Kelvinator has had better designs than the 200 & 300 series.

Fully agreed, even though SWMBO calls our D4 the LEGO car, she does admit it looks much better than most other 4wds, current range rovers excepted....I'm very biased of course and reckon the D4 looks fantastic.

Another mate has a top of the wazza Prado. Is nothing to ride in and plastic fantastic. Gearbox now vibrating at 100kmh. The new ones look like a transformer. The thing I hate most is the single boot door and the base of the boot is 6 inches higher than the door sill. The D3/4 boot door is just brilliant and a huge negative of the 5.

Mmmm , I’m wondering if I passed you , we were doing a drill rig move and I passed a D4 towing a good size boat on the Carpentaria hwy just near the heartbreak hotel about 8-10 days ago.
If it was you did you take the tablelands hwy down to Barkley homestead.? If so be keen to know what tyres you run as We had a lot of tyre damage on the road trains.

Yes, that would be me! Can't imaging there were any other D4's towing a big white boat out there.
I did travel via the Tableland Hwy - it is a really crap road! I have Pirelli Scorpian AT Plus tyres on the D4 and nondescript (I suspect Chinese) 4 ply light truck tyres on the boat trailer. This trip was the first of 6 where I have not had at least one blow-out on the boat trailer. Never had any issues with the Pirellis. I carry two spares for the D4 and two for the boat trailer.

    Cheers

Well done, looked like a nice rig. We were coming out about half way along but between the 4 road trains think we had 7 puncture or blowouts. I did pass a red land cruiser with what looked like a similar size boat which he said had done 4 tyres between car and trailer.

Good to see you out and about with the D4 and towing a decent size load as well.

You must have just beaten the covid outbreak too.

So did you go to king ash bash or were you more up bing bong or Nathan river area.?

We were fishing out of King Ash Bay but bailed out when the NT brought in the mask mandate fearing things would get worse.

Broken down. Push start, cranks, gets going stuttering and stops. Repeat. Runs for about a second or two. Seems to show rail pressures around 6000psi briefly so doesn’t seem to be a high pressure pump issue though unsure. 2010 TDV6 3.0L. No errors showing on GAP.
Look like she’s off to the Indy on a flat bed. Grrr
