Yeah I'm going to order a new compressor, it looks like a painful job so not much point going to the effort of pulling it and not putting a new one in. But still the relief valve shouldn't have stayed open dumping the entire contents

Is the PRV on the high side of the system, and does it vent to atmosphere?Or is it internal between the high and low sides of the system?

Charging using pressures on a system like that isn't good.

Yeah it's on the high side, not internal, vents external. Yeah charging off pressures on a car isn't good practice, in just guessing that's what he did.

Shane in my experience they are kinda like a air compressor relief. They might open at 120 but they don't shut till much lower, say 90. The drama is the compressor would have still been pumping.

Ordered new idlers, accessory belt and water pump from AF, I figured after the originals have done 220,000km, it's time to replace as a preventative measure.

Was still venting with the engine off all the way to zero pressure, and even had a stop and start again midway through

Probably froze, defrosted, then went back to dumping it's guts. The change out isn't that bad.. Few beers.. You'll be right

At least with no gas in it it’s a simpler process What happened to your D3/D4 today?

Agreed, josh, after the control arm saga with captive bolts and no room for spanners, everything else will be easy. I have to take mine to my local ac guru. Cools OK up to around 30 deg ambient, anything over 30 is a struggle, so I think not enough refrigerant in the system. Clutch works fine and no unusual noise from the compressor (yet)

You’ve said it’s 220,000km. You need a new compressor. It’s just that simple What happened to your D3/D4 today?

Possibly DJ, but if its worn out, wouldn't all the refrigerant vent to atmosphere? Or is it bypassing internally?
