Fitted a DIY remote unit for the Fuel Burning Heater. Been on my list to build for years but life kept getting in the way. This lets me pre-warm the car on a cold morning guaranteeing heat from the time I turn the key.

It flashes the status using the LED in the grille (which is disabled as soon as I turn the ignition on to keep it legal). It also allows me to query the coolant temperature remotely and it flashes it out the LED, so I can request that whether or not the heater is running.

The LED doesn't look that bright, but it's a 25000mcd warm white, so it's pretty visible except in direct sunlight (when you really don't need the heater anyway).

Stopped the suns reflection from gear selector surround.

    Hi All,
Had the D4 console out recently and installed a carbon fibre patterned vinyl wrap on the gear selector surround, park brake switch and all 4 face vents.
The vents were interesting in that you remove the duct and flapper unit from the rear of the assy but the shiny duct ring detatches and comes off from the front.
I've had insulation tape on the vents almost since I got the vehicle.
This will beat dropping my hat on the surround again.
We'll see how durable it is.

thinking to change to a 3l
I notice that some have no gear shifter stick
does this mean, either that shifting in command shift, is by paddles, or is there no command shift option 2013 0n d4?

8 sp have the knob. 6sp have the gear stick. I think, but the 8sp have steering wheel paddles. This will need to be confirmed

And the 6 speed can have them retrofitted with a simple ecu flash and the hardware.

    Lumbar support knobs

Apparently these are now unobtanium, and I got sick of not being able to adjust the lumbar supports in the D3.

Typical crap thin plastic always cracks.

Used Kapton tape (doesn't stretch and has a high thermal tolerance). The Kapton holds it together and does a credible job of mechanical support. Backed up with glue-lined heatshrink.

    Done.

I did one because I'd "mis-placed" the second. The first one has held up ok, so I thought I'd take some pics of the second one. Don't know how they'll go long term, but for now they seem to hold up.

I've been planning a storage solution for a while but finally made a start last weekend, originally bought 13m of 13x13/1.8mm SHS but to get the rigidity i needed it wasn't enough.
I cut up an old roofrack that a mate and i went halves in years that was made of 20mm SHS and used that as the base frame then made the top frame and uprights from the 13mm, top only needs to support some camping gear and is more than adequate.
I made a fridge slide years ago from 25mm alloy with plastic connectors and gal rod so i built the frame around it, fridge will be on the right and on the left i'll be making a chuck box style kitchen box from plywood that will be on a slide but fully removable.
