Do you leave them in auto or intermittent ?

A wrecker will give you the equivalent of SFA. Parting it yourself is a PITA unless you have lots of room out of sight of any significant other, and you will inevitably wind up with a whole bunch of crap that nobody wants and is hard to move now it's not on wheels. But it's probably going to give you the highest return, albeit in dribs and drabs.
Imo it'd be much better to advertise it as a project, here and on marketplace. You won't get what it's worth but you'll get what it's worth... if you see what I mean. Suck it and see, for a month maybe. The wreckers will only insult you.
I'm very sorry for you Les. That is a horrible situation. I have been where you are some years ago in the D3. Replaced with a second hand D3 engine. It was worth it for us.
I offer this post from two years ago. At Posts 15 and 16 they discuss engine replacement options. #16 suggesting that a Ford Ranger engine may now be available. I do not know if it is a realistic replacement. They have been in the market for more than two years now.
In addition, AULRO Member, Fabsky chronicles his D4 rebuild commencing at this link on the Forum. It makes for a fascinating read. Fabsky is a seriously impressive (brave?) chap. Maybe PM him?
Best wishes,
Jeff
Thank you Brad,
Cummins Restore looks very good for oil contamination removal.
For interest and Reference, HERE IS A PDF on "Restore" (alkali based) and its sister product "Restore Plus" (acid based) which is used more for rust and scale removal. Also for interest, you can buy it at All Marine Mona Vale (Sydney)
Thank you once again.
